AIs alerted for no reason as the game starts. - by Lady Rowena

I had already put many AIs into my FM some time ago, (before 1.19) all is fine with them.
Yesterday I started putting some hammerites in another area. This is quite far and isolated from the previous area, no enemies in sight, no suspicious items, as far as I know. In spite of that they act as if they are seeing enemies, they become alerted after a second or so.
I put the first one on the streets. He becomes alerted but after a while fortunately he calms down and start patrolling. Then I put the second one inside a house nearby. This one should sleep, but since he is alerted I find him standing instead of sleeping. It's not that he "felt" my presence, since I'm not there when it happens. Anyway AI Aware is set to 0.
I tried putting a servant there, and he acts the same way.
Finally, I created an AI in the "old" area, and he acts normally, but if I move him to the "cursed" zone he becomes alerted just like the others.
I'm totally confused, as I can't imagine the reason for the strange behavior.
Any idea please?

Probably some object dropping at startup and making a noise which alerts them.
Try set game_mode_backup 0, go into game mode, back to edit mode, and check the AIAwareness links on the AIs to see what alerted them.
Remember not to save after using game_mode_backup 0!

Nothing....nothing at all appears on the monolog...because it should appear on the monolog, right?
Besides, it doesn't always happens. Sometimes he is alerted, sometimes he is not.
BTW, I have to type that on the command window, right? And, should I type only once or every time I go in game again?
This is strange anyway, because if something is making noise it shouldn't be heard even inside the house. Unless the roombrushing is a mess....of which I'm not sure. I HATE roombrushing....:o

You probably won't see anything in monolog.
You're right about where you type the command.

Found it! It was a key dropping on a metal bench. Sadly it means that I will have to check all the roombrushing around there....:(

Why not just fix the key so that it doesn't fall? Maybe lock its location, rotation?
Lady Rowena on 20/4/2013 at 01:30
Already fixed that. But since it is placed in a closed room, no AIs inside yet, none of the two AIs should have heard the noise, expecially from the outside. Bad roombrushing, I suppose. I need to fix it.

Ok, I fixed it. It's strange though, the AI couldn't hear me hitting on some pipes, but he was able to hear the dropping key through a closed door. Is a key a suspicious item?
john9818a on 22/4/2013 at 03:18
I don't think the key is a suspicious item since sometimes the guards carry them, but any object that drops onto another object or solid/liquid terrain will alert the guard if its loud enough and he is able to hear it. Maybe the metal bench is in a room brush (extra or misplaced) that the pipes aren't in. Is there anything below that area that has a room brush that is causing a sound "leak?"

John, in fact I just half-solved it.
There are two rooms, one has the infamous key on the metal bench (solid brush) and the pipes, the other one is a barrack with the hammer sleeping.
Actually the key was dropping on the bench, but I left it there just for testing.
The roombrushing is perfect, I tested it to death. The problem lies in the door that connects the two rooms. Just a fricking stupid door that doesn't work as it should!
It worked, at some point, but the "closing" sound can't be heard then. If slighty move it I can hear the sound, but the hammer gets alerted by the key's noise.
I redid the roombrush of the door dozen of times, even using LG' s method. (2 rb intersecting. No result.
Finally I got tired, I placed the blasted key properly on the bench and the problem magically went away. The door sound works and even if I hit the pipes with my sword the hammer doesn't get alerted and continue sleeping.
That's why I thought that the the key sound was suspicious itself.
That's all. Sorry for the long novel. :erm:
