Out of curiosity, what's their explanation for making them blind?
If there was any explanation for why there were blind, white aliens in the sewers I missed it. Or for why there were cast-off alien shells down there. Or for that matter, how exactly my teammate managed to figure out they were blind to begin with.

In the hands of someone else could the tools have been used to make a good game?
Gearbox actually, if they had A. actually given a shit and not farmed out the majority of development to a "B" studio down the road so that they could focus on the Borderlands series; and/or B. if publisher Sega had paid far closer attention to their investments.

So apparently this game is getting a four gigabyte patch today. Mostly upgraded textures, though the notes claim AI improvements.
Somehow, I don't expect major improvements.
Phatose on 18/3/2013 at 23:28
OK, well, whatever else they did, they certainly added in a film grain effect.....and forgot to add in a way to turn it off.
I hate that effect, so I'm gonna be waiting til the next patch before any more playing I suppose.
Edit: Managed to play a little bit. The film grain is really obnoxious. But the lighting does seem to have improved, and the xenos are actually dangerous now.

They don't just run in a straight line at you anymore?
Phatose on 19/3/2013 at 00:48
Well, not a completely straight line. Haven't played enough to figure out exactly what the change was. Might be damage, though I highly suspect that they simply made the AI ignore NPC team-mates, since they're invincible anyway.
I may be misinterpreting that though, and I've seen claims on other forums they really are smarter.

Their effort in patching is in a way admirable... it's sad, that Colonial Marines ended up being such a great mess. I remember their other great mess - Duke Nukem Forever and its patching process - not like it made a game good, but it certainly made it way more enjoyable and playable with customizable FOV, additional configuration options for mouse, 4-guns and all the other crap.
If only EA ever learnt how to support their games *looks at the box of Syndicate*:erm:

The ignored the NPCs before the patch. So no change there.

The moral of this story is never play any game until atleast 6 months - a year after its been released to ensure that it is in a "finished" state.
