I loved the first Rebellion one, but I think that was much earlier. Who did the 2010, was it Obsidian?
Rebellion again. They didn't really learn much in the intervening 10 years.

Haha :) OK, I didn't play that one at all. Wow, 10 years, I'm gettin' old.
Does anyone know if Gearbox outsourced Duke Nukem too? I guess there are lots of other reasons that turned out a dud, just wondering what's going on in the company to make them go from AA to trash and back and forth.

So, apparently pre-ordering this game from a third party was a mistakes - couldn't cancel it. Haven't actually played it yet, but looks like a clusterfuck.

I get the feeling someone should try the Aliens IP in another format or not bother any more. I could see a SurHor format working better than just straight up shooting again.

I'm glad companies make big-budget terrible games. The reviews are much more entertaining that way.

I was hoping this game was going to turn out great (especially since it's the only new game I was interested in until Bioshock Infinite's release date, which BTW I hope is still March?), but I wasn't expecting much, as (a) the last AvP game was so bad, and (b) modern first person shooter conventions almost dictate that a new FPS be formulaic, dull, and lead you by the hand because modern gamers (in the view of games companies) won't buy a game that doesn't treat them like an idiot.
The 2000 game from Rebellion is fantastic. Not was, is (to me), as I still play it every so often. Alright, so it's short, ugly by modern standards (like any real gamer would care...), and doesn't have a lot of variation, but what it did it mostly did very well. Don't expect a story, or a gentle learning curve, or anything really, other than a tough, demanding game that can make you almost jump in your seat at times. And I'm so glad the patch added a mid-level safe function (it was hard enough with the saves, utter murder without it).
AvP 2 (around 2002/2003, can't remember who wrote/published it) wasn't nearly as good, I thought, though it was OK. It added a story to the mix, but the combat and atmosphere weren't as good, and it lost the ability to make you jump.
But the last one, it just felt like it was made by people who neither liked nor understood either first person shooters or the Alien or Predator IP.

I saw someone on another forum (or was it here?) suggest an
Aliens prequel game where you play as Newt in an Amnesia-like horror game. Which sounds like a bloody interesting idea even if you remove the direct lore connection.

The article is not written by fucking Tycho Brahe, if you notice.
What you're looking at is a spin-off, PA Report. Basically the PA comic hacks hired actual professional game journalists in a serious attempt to compete with the likes of Destructoid, Escapist and the Gawker shit.
