Those opinions do exist, but at the same time there are plenty of more reasonable reviews to offset them. Stating that the majority opinion is always wrong is pretty elitist.

Obviously places like Metacritic are biased towards mainstream media, simply because that's what a democratic approach will do. However, mainstream doesn't automatically mean bad, and any kneejerk reaction to that effect is just that - a self-important, "We're in a minority and therefore really special!" kneejerk reaction against anything that a majority likes.

I've thought about metacritic and its value when buying games before. If they get an awful average I'm less inclined to buy them.
However, getting a high score is no indication of a game being good. See BioShock for the perfect example.

that's what I wanted to say but I also wanted to say that for many games I looked at metacritic for, the MAJORITY of reviews being used to judge it came from really questionable sources with at least 3-4 reviews having NO CLUE at all about the game meaning they did not play it or just copy/pasted the review from some other site.
If you think it's elitist to expect from metacritic to provide at least a selection of serious reviews to judge a game then, yeah, I'm an elitist. I really do ask for a least amount of quality and that the reviewer even played the game him/herself. I don't have problems using "popular, mainstream" media, it's just that most of the so-called magazines are just console-specific propaganda. I would never let the official microsoft xbox magazine review score have any effect on the metacritic one.

I pre-ordered the steam version and got a copy of Universe at War, which retails at £15.
Bargain imo

I agree, it's not the ultimate, perfect score. The majority isn't always right- I don't believe that Halo 3 is a masterpiece better than Stalker, for example. But a knee-jerk it's popular therefore it sucks attitude is just idiotic.

I think it's elitist for you to assume that Metacritic is always 'wrong'. Sure, there will be SOME bogus reviews, but for the most part it's an accurate reflection of the majority opinion. Whether or not you agree with the majority is another thing entirely, but to suggest that it's meaningless is idiotic.

Interesting. Looks like there are quicktime events to avoid getting killed.

Really? Where? I missed that.

It's inferred. You see things in the trailer like a marine visibly cockblocking a facehugger that's making a move on his esophagus, and stop it. I'm pretty sure I've also seen in earlier trailers things like the marine grabbing a xeno's inner jaws when it tries to headbite him.
If it was just one, then it could be a cutscene. More then one, it's very likely 'press b to not die'. Of course, that's probably some improvement, seeing as AvP1&2 simply settled for 'you're dead' when those things happen.
