Yeah, that's why I could never take Splinter Cell seriously. A stealth game in which you creep around in the dark with a big glowing triangle on your head was just a bit too retarded for my liking
The devs have stated several times that the "glowing triangle" was just for looks. In the game, it was invisible. Also, glowing patches on the suit are just for player orientation/reference. They are just there for you. Simply a fix for 3rd person/co-op games, played in seriously dark environs.
If they bug you that much, I am sure that a new skin/texture pack could be found eventually.

I rate it favorably. The whole thing is very immersive- your footsteps feel like footsteps, not floating across the ground like a lot of games, and the lighting is very dark and atmospheric. Having played as alien and marine so far, I feel that they are very strongly contrasted, with the alien having speed and stealth while the marine has range and detection. The weapons are not so powerful that a quick burst kills an alien, and the weapons generate a lot of muzzle flare, so you can't just aim at an alien and spray or you'll lose sight of it and then you're dead. As an alien, you can move between surfaces seamlessly, and the jump works pretty well although sometimes it doesn't go where I want.
The melee system is pretty good, it's a lot like AvP2 with the alien- claw attack, tail attack, headbite/other instakill in specific situations. The trophy kills are NOT win buttons, since it's hard to line up unless you're right behind an enemy, and I've seen at least one instance where it failed and my victim escaped.
I don't see it as a crappy console port. It is obvious that it was developed for consoles too, but auto-aim is a good idea for melee and there is no auto-aim for ranged combat.
The demo does grow repetitive, and there are some balancing issues (shotgun sucks) but other than that, I'd say it's worth a preorder.
Also, it runs maxed out at 80+ FPS on an 8800GTX, and looks gorgeous. Just remember to turn off Vsync, or you get mouse lag, and since I have noticed no screen tearing there's no downside.

I hear that the matchmaking is quite bad, does it use dedicated servers or not? That's something that the developer talked up prior to release.
EDIT: Seems that the full version will have dedi support, just that the demo doesn't. What a bone-headed move, demo impressions can make or break purchasing decisions for a lot of people.

I can't tell.. the ONLY option I have is quick match. and it never loads a server.. it just sits there saying "looking for games" and does nothing.
There isn't even an option to host. I can't even try the game out on my own without any body else there.
Demo gets a fail from me. They should release a SP demo.

same here: installed, started the game and wanted to check out the map on my own .... doesn't work. wanted to join a server..... doesn't work, you have to use "quick match". I choose it and after doing the dishes, a shower and other activities I return to my PC only to see the "searching for game..." still there. I deinstalled and will forget about this game until the SP comes out.
way to scare off a PC customer

Same here. And when it finally did find a game, it would load for about 4 minutes and then... server timed out. Five times in a row. Took my like half an hour before I was finally able to play it and the game runs like crap on my old old laptop (10fps and horrid mouselag) so I can't really play it at all. Gotta wait for some low-res ini hacks.

This complaint is pretty dumb and in no way the fault of the developers.

The fuck? Where was I blaming the developer for that one? And I am not allowed to ever state my computer isn't powerful enough to run a game?
Christ.
