AvP2 did rule (chestburster scene), even though AvP1 was better in some gameplay aspects.

It wasn't as stressful as AvP1, but Primal Hunt has pushed the difficulty few steps up, I think.

So, was Primal Hunt actually worth it? I heard it sucked major donkey balls.

Rebellion wrecked 2000AD and were instrumental in Judge Dredd becoming unreadable crap. So they can fuck off, as much as AvP1 was awesome. I remember that was literally the first 3D FPS I ever played - My parents had just bought a new computer and I was used to playing doom using just the keyboard. So I set off in AvP, merrily turning, aiming AND strafing using the cursor keys and wsad, and of course the very first Alien I met killed the fuck out of me. I still remember frantically spinning round and aiming up and down and not understanding how the hell I was supposed to hit this snarling, hissing thing that resolutely refused to stay in my eye-level horizontal line-of-fire comfort zone.
I learnt quick with that game. In at the deep end, I guess.
Anyway, AvP3 is most likely to be bad, because they'll try and cram a story into it and rebellion are shit at that.

It was short, 3 missions for each species, so it had no extensive plot, but it seemed to be more difficult and what more can be expected from half official datadisc afterall... I never finished the Marine campaign, as holding the flood of aliens at the end, leaping at you from all sides with machine gun for several minutes proved to be too difficult for me.

The plot in PH is smaller and generally shorter, yeah, and it's very, very difficult (especially as a mercenary), but I had fun.
Also TF seems to be incapable of enjoying games but then again he's kind of an ass anyway.

Main difference in action is that in AvP1 the player was constantly preoccupied with stream of continuously spawning aliens of varied intensity, that's what created so much stress. In AvP2 their attacks are scripted, you are attacked by one or more once you reach certain point and what is especially obvious in Primal Hunt, they attack you in waves of 5-8, sometimes more drones. So once you deal with one wave, you can have a break for a while, you can backtrack for healing and ammo safely.
I still think that finishing all three AvP1 campaigns on Director's Cut was one of my best gaming achievements. However it was patched version offering 2 saves per level on DC. I think without the ability to save in vanilla, this would be extremely difficult and I'd like to see a maniac who managed to finish the vanilla marine campaign on DC. :p

I for one absolutely loved AvP1 more than AvP2. Sure the plot was practically non existant, but sometimes you dont really need one (ie Doom). For it looked alot more realistic incomparison to AvP2`s more cartoonish style and the lighting was better. Also it was a HELL OF ALOT more scarier. Especially in the Alien and Marine campaigns. The predator campaign was much better done in AvP2 I`ll admit.

I actually liked the Alien campaign, because unlike the other two it was so relaxed for most of the time. And I adored the ability to crawl on the walls and make stealthy head bites.

I still haven't finished the Marine campaign in AVP 2. I just can't, it scares the ever living shit out of me. I don't usually get that scared in games (the only games that made me exit out really fast out of sheer terror were my first experiences w/DooM3 and the Suffering) but AvP2 was notable. Wow, what an immersive game. I really felt like I was like Ripley in the section where she goes into the queen's nest in Aliens.
The Predator levels were just about mass destruction on a grand scale, while the Alien levels were the most interesting/original, IMHO. Anyone familiar w/Animal Planet channel will apreciate that to me it feels like th game version of the Growing up... series. Growing Up....Alien, lol. Getting to experience the life cycle first-hand is just unmatched in coolness and has YET to be surpassed.
