I haven't had any problems finding games or with the controls. To change species, click on the big portrait for your species on the left of the screen in the game lobby. Be wary there are caps on how many players for each species can play at the same time.
The full game has crouching, dedicated servers, improved controls and whatnot. There's a sticky on the steam forum for the game with all the pluses. I've been enjoying hte demo quite a bit, to be honest. It can be improved, but it's quite fun as flawed as it might be!

Here's a link to the sticky:(

It doesn't mention anything about crouching, though; instead, the forum is filled with morons biting off the heads of anyone who thinks that crouch might be useful, by ranting that it's useless and shouldn't be included, despite people providing heaps of examples as to why it might be useful. Gotta love the Internet.

I've seen a lot more people complaining that the game needs crouching simply because it's an FPS staple.
I don't see how it's a big deal. The Alien is always crouching, the Predator is too mobile to camp in any one place, and the Marine doesn't need an accuracy bonus nor a way to hide.

tried this morning and it got me into a game right away. It waits for the lobby to fill up though. Very XBL type of lobby gameplay. I don't like it.
the game itself is fun though.. It is much slower than either of its predecessors, but I think that's to its advantage. It is very cinematic especially when you see an alien out of the corner of your eye disappear around a wall or something. If this was anywhere near as fast paced as the original you'd never get to see the animations. The emphasis here seems to be on stealth kills. which makes sense because thats how most of the kills were made in the movies right? surprise!
I have 2 big problems so far (aside from the matchmaking which just plain sucks) and one is in the visuals.. which seemed a little low tech (like a really really good optimisation of the quake III engine or something) but then I remembered that the disclaimer at the beginning said that it only supports dx9 until the full release comes out, which means there arent a lot of shaders involved and it looks kind of static and bland. Mind you the only map supplied with the demo is in an infested base somewhere so I doubt there would be much diversity in the colour palette.
The second is the complete lack of any kind of indication as to how you play the damn game. The keybinds in the options section only pertain to the marine. So I had to do a lot of dying and screwing around with the keyboard to figure out how to even play the pred. I never did get to change weapons away from the wristblades. I found 2 weapons for him though.. the spear and the disc. When i pushed the number buttons to switch weapons it gave me a HUD to chose which ones.. except you can't choose, if you click your mouse you just attack with whatever you have equipped at the moment. I found out that with wristblades equipped I could push alt and throw whatever else I had in my inventory. Which was useless for the spear, because as soon as you throw it you can't pick it back up. I also had to screw around to learn that F (in my binds ) was what switched vision modes.
I'm looking forward to the real thing. This demo whet my appetite quite a bit. But really its only good for a benchmark to see if it runs at all on your computer. I don't think I'll be playing it anymore. I'll wait the 2 weeks.

You can change controls for the other characters as well, you just have to look better.
Saying that it looks bad because it's "just" dx9 is a joke, right? Do you really think a few new shaders will turn ugly, empty, badly designed maps into something actually good?
As for the demo, it sucked. A lot. If Rebellion wanted it to "sell the game", it failed big time, at least in my book. I still do have some hope for singleplayer, though.

Quoted for truth. I tried it this afternoon and *meh*. They had better be saving the money shots for the full game or this is going to be bargain bin city.

This demo is a direct port of the 360 demo showed off at E3 2009.
I also find it amusing that you pluralize maps.

If that is your idea of humor, you are a sad little man.

What the
fuck were they thinking? Trying to sell people with such an ancient and outdated build. If it were MP open beta, I'd understand, but it isn't.
They likely would've done less damage by having not released a demo prior to the game's release at all. A polished demo 2-4 weeks would've been a better idea if they're this ill-prepared.
I'm honestly surprised that Rebellion is still afloat, after theyve released critically panned game upon critically panned game and made boneheaded decisions such as this whole demo debacle. (I doubt that it's because of their 2000 AD comics either. Does anyone even give two shits about Judge Dredd any more?) Apparently they're the biggest independent developer in the UK or some shit, another example complete clowns failing upwards in the videogame industry.

Erm, games can still look good using DirectX 9? Everyone who's still using Windows XP is using DirectX9, and last I checked there are still impressive-looking games.
