Okay i tried playing it again and it was better this time around, the sprint button is fucking stupidly placed as Q and i didnt see it when i glanced at the controls the first time. The game still feels kind of clunky and seems like it would be more at home on a xbox however.
Gonna play it some more as im warming up to it.

One thing that is a big negative is that I can't seem to find it anywhere other than steam. Googling aliens vs. predator doesn't help. I have a bad feeling about this.
Steamworks, ergo you won't find it anywhere else.

That sucks. Although I guess I shouldn't complain. I guess it is more the principle (ya know, lookin' out for those that don't care for steam, and what not)

Can you name a better middleware solution that provides:-
* A robust, proven multiplayer infrastructure.
* Integrated instant messaging and friend's list - with the ability to join a contact's match on the fly.
* An anti-cheating solution that doesn't give end users if a couple of external EXEs (that run as Windows Services) aren't fully allowed by any firewall program that maybe running.
* The option of automatic updates for games which use the service.
* A DRM implementation which is fair to the consumer, free of limited activations and which gives the option of an unlimited on demand backup of your game.
Your other options are what, GfWL or Gamespy? Both services are infinitely worse than Steamworks. It's the lesser of all the evils out there, suck it up and be thankful that they didn't saddle the game with something far more notorious and anti-consumer, or have the nightmare of requiring multiple logins for several services, like Dawn of War 2 or GTA4.

I can surely find at least one better game-selling platform offering normal prices for Europeans :) I'm wondering who's dumb enough to buy these games for 49,99 euros on Steam... Also I hate when I buy the DVD version with Steam. I have to install the game for 15-20 minutes and wait another 30 minutes for Steam to download some additional crap, and it's not even using my connection to the full extent.

It is not a matter of which "middleware"is the best here. Yes, steam is great, that's not the point. The point I'm trying to make is that you shouldn't NEED steam for a retail game. Like Modern Warfare 2. I went to a local electronics store, and saw that it required steam, right from the box. I was suprised. What's wrong with releasing the game as stand-alone? That's all I'm saying. I would still buy it on steam because I don't want to miss out, it is just a shame is all.

new development. The alien is awesome. By far the most kills I made. The transition button thing is weird and I don't like it. But if you jumped the first surface you touch you'll cling to. I was running down the hallway after marines shooting at me just jumping from wall to wall till I got to him and he couldn't hit me.
I'd say this game isn't going to be any fun for anybody right off the bat, you definitely have to play with the controls before you start to get the hang of it.
AvP2 was the same.

I didn't believe you at first when you said that that would be the price on Steam, but it looks like you're right. Seems kinda retarded compared to play.com's €23.49.

Ok, someone explain to me exactly how you use the spear or the disc as the Predator.
I had both of them, I was in Alien vision, had an Alien down the corridor, tried selecting them and firing and I just flailed my stupid claws and waited for the inevitable melee face off. GG on letting us know how to play Rebellion. WTF have you made the controls even more obscure than in the original?

Christ, the Steam retail outlet != Steamworks, which include the services built into the client software.

A game that uses Steamworks for say it's multiplayer infrastructure, anti-cheating solution (VAC) and Cloud back up facilities (for saves + settings and/or your online profile for a particular game) will absolutely require the client software. It's just like a compiled program written with a certain programming language requiring that the runtime libraries be installed.
I'll say it again, suck it up. It's one of the fairest DRM solutions (requiring online activation) out there and the benefits far outweigh the pits. Think of the alternatives:- most GfWL titles offers 15 unrevokable activations (when you run out you have to deal with Microsoft support to get a new key), and if you don't live in one of (
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/countries.htm) 26 countries supported by the Live service, the Multiplayer facilities of your game likely won't work and you may not be able to buy DLC. That's right, roughly 168 countries aren't supported by neither Xbox nor PC variants of Live.
