if they came in non-enthusiast models that worked I'd probably get one.
They do. I have a $10 optical mouse on this laptop with 5 buttons. It is 5 years old now, and has proved rugged, accurate, and dependable.

brand and model?

The marine campaign is considerably more terrifying in this one then in AvP1/2, simply because the xeno AI is a hell of a lot better. They don't just run at you - the use their wallwalking and pouncing, and they're a bitch to keep track of, and are generally much more like Xenos from the Aliens movies then knife fighters with Xeno skins.

Damn, it isn't just steam misrepresenting the size... I just got my retail case, and on the back in print it says 4.6 GB. What a load of bullshit.

I just realized, that's what the DEMO takes up. Some dipshit probably just copy/pasted the demo's system requirements and forgot to change the HD space.
Phatose on 18/2/2010 at 02:43
Well, if I browse to the local folder in steam, it's taking up 15 gigs. I doubt that's the download size though, since it finished in much, much less time then ME2 did.
If I were to venture a guess, I'd say the maps are being decompressed onto the disc. At 11 gigs, They're the majority of the space used up.
On another note, the Alien campaign is stupidly short. It was just starting to get good, then it was over.
I'm kind of disappointed with the whole harvest thing though. Only 2 animations, and neither one of them has appropriate audio. The civvies will kill themselves if they see you coming, but they don't so much as scream if you grab them and hold them by the head while a facehugger magically appears. They should be screaming with sheer fucking terror.

Someone must have overlooked this- the system requirements listing for AvP on the Steam store says it requires 4.6gb of hard drive space, but that's what the DEMO requires. The full game is something to the order of around 14gb or so. You might want to fix that.

So uhh the forum here is rather quiet on the opinions front. We need some more bitching, moaning and stuff so let me throw in some commentary. :D
I think the visuals are good. They are similar to Prey and Quake 4. My 8800GTX has no problems with the game. I would definitely not upgrade for this game regardless of the DX11 hype.
The gameplay is not all that great though.. I'm working on the marine campaign. You are guided along the small maps by at least 3 different game mechanisms. A marine woman with a strange spanish/standard english dialect (lolz) tells you exactly what you need to do. Items and waypoints light up so I can't possibly miss the next thing. Finally, the motion tracker has an arrow and this arrow doesn't act simply as a compass but actually follows a pathway through the level! I also get a "kick" out of how fake spanish girl will give you extra hints if you stop to actually *shock* explore the environment. Clearly a player would only do that if he had somehow been intellectually overwhelmed and had become bewildered and lost.
I think AVP2 has better maps. More interesting, more expansive areas. And almost none of this insane hand holding stuff.
Giving the pistol infinite ammo is a strange move. Apparently they were worried about players running out of ammo. Not a big deal but not many games do this anymore.
The game doesn't have quick saves but it checkpoints a whole lot so it's not a big deal frankly. It checkpoints so often that it's essentially like quicksaving. I'm guessing that this is a console trait.
They have the seemingly obligatory audio logs. Unfortunately their game design implodes here because to listen to a log you hit tab and leave the game, to a menu, and then have to hit Esc a few times to get back to the gameplay! Uhmm so I have just been ignoring the logs due to this. Very annoying.
I haven't done the other campaigns at all yet. Just the marine. Combat is pretty good. The aliens in this game move quite a bit slower than in the older AVP games but they are animated significantly better than ever before.
It's not a bad game but it does feel like a super hand holding session most of the time. The game feels polished and stable aside from some pauses that happen occasionally. I do think the review scores are actually on target for the first time in awhile! It's an average but passable experience.

Well, tried playing it, but the world isn't rendering correctly - I just get skybox and static meshes. :( Have to try at home instead...

So....no "LET GO OF MY DAMN HAND!!" mode then? even on highest difficulty?
