Jesus Christ, how many fucking times must this be explained to you? In FPSes it was standard to specifically equip grenades, thus un-equipping any guns. Afterwards you had to manually re-equip your gun. In Halo grenades were just instantly lobbed, your gun was never de-equipped, nor did you have to prime 'nades.
/sigh
What I was trying to show was aside from a hand animation (which implicitly dequips/equips weapons seemlessly), cylcing/using grenades in Halo is not really that different from cycling/using grenades (as inventory items) in older FPS games.
Also, I almost forgot about the Quake 2->Team Fortress Classic evolution of this gameplay mechanic as well. Now, let's drop this grenade stuff.

Yeah but it really is.

How? It's still keypress to use, it's still not taking over your primary weapon, and I'm pretty sure Halo had multiple grenade types you could cycle through. The fact that you can cycle to health kits or sentries or whatever hardly changes the mechanism.

I'm sorry but in Quake 2 equipping grenades always supplants your primary weapon no matter how it's selected.

It's the version I have, actually. Not any different from the original release, afaik, except it didn't come with a printed manual and it's prepatched.
System Shock 2 is one of those games that everyone's played and everyone loves and is consistently in every top 10 games of all time list published anywhere but at the same time everyone acts like it's an underground/underappreciated gem.
Edit: Damn it, it's not called "gold". It was part of the "Classics" series that EA did for their most popular games around 2000-ish (as far as I remember this included SS2, Alpha Centauri, one of the NFS games, etc).

So, I'll accept my apology anytime you're ready...:joke:

I'll accept my (CENSORED) whenever you're ready for an apology. This is how relationships work right.

I've already agreed Halo is popular. There's no denying it implemented a lot of gameplay mechanics nicely, but these were influenced by many popular games before it. That's where its influence lies, tying them together.
Yea yea that's great dude, but no one is talking about influencing. We're talking about
popularizing. There's a difference.

Halo - which set a lot of trends for modern shooters, not just those of first person. It arguably the most influential game in the genre since Half-Life 1.

regarding AvP3, the game featured in the thread title: I played the marine section and this game is boring and uninspired. from the uninspired story to the bad realized console mechanics ported over to the PC everything feels off. No leaning, no crouch, BIG hands infront of your face, BIG hud, most annoying crosshair in a long time and instead of mousewheel weapon selection a BIG HUD pop up in the middle of your screen, screeching everything to a halt. HOLD keys to activate things (?). the game goes through all the cliche moments I actually looked forward to relive but there is no terror in that game, only annoyance in how it tries to hinder you playing the game. setting and design of the architecture and alien infestations does not help either, the engine itself is poorly optimized and lags a lot although the visuals do not justify it. pass it up !!!!
