Sounds like Ubisoft and DRM.

I posted the source for that article two days ago and even quoted the relevant sections in my OP.

Well excuse me princess, it was like 7am. Cut me a break.

Give the license to another company, plz.

We actually might get a SDK out of this since Rebellion made it. Fat chance of that ever happening with total console knobslobbers like Monolith. Ditto with the upcoming dedicated server patch.
My point is, the modding community might be able to salvage this game down the road.

You know, for someone who claims to have liked Monolith's last game you certainly do a good job of sounding like you hate Monolith. And your "console knobslobbing" comment makes no goddamn sense here because AvP2 was never released on console.

I was going to say that Monolith should get the next game, but then I thought of their recent games. Condemned 2 never came to PC at all, Condemned 1 didn't get bug fixes it needed, and from what I've read, FEAR 2 was no improvement on its predecessor. So I don't know if they would be "better" anyway.
I do think that AVP2 was at least somewhat better than AVP3, but it wasn't exactly perfection either. Monolith's best games, NOLF 1 & 2, are from ages ago and probably don't say anything about the modern state of the company.

EDIT: Anyway to summarise, Rebellion has demonstrated that they at least still recognise the core wants and needs of a the PC community and know what it takes to have lasting success on this platform. Having control over the MP admin and having good latency in MP matches are a big part of that.
As is releasing a SDK, Rebellion knows this and have discussed the possibility.

Christ, I meant if TODAY'S Monolith were to make a new AvP game. The implied context is pretty obvious considering that topic was directly about handing over the license to another developer to make a new game.

Goddammit, FEAR 2 was pummelled into the ground by unoptimised console portitis and you know it. I enjoyed the game despite of this, but I'm still allowed to criticise the game's faults.
Features that FEAR 1 had which FEAR 2 didn't.
* Leaning
* Dedicated servers
* An anti-cheating solution (Punkbuster)
* 5 button mouse support
Saying that nobody played the MP until Combat was released is such a rubbish non-argument and is completely missing the point. If anecdotal evidence is worth anything, FEAR 2's MP on PC bombed even harder because it was P2P hosted and had no anti-cheat. Never mind that they're expected features for PC FPSes, FEAR 1 HAD THEM, FEAR 2 DIDN'T.
Ditto for native 5-button mouse support. Saying that "Oh, there's non-native workaround for that." is again is the point.
Leaning - There's a shortage of buttons on a console gamepad, pure and simple. They didn't bother to add the feature back into the game for the PC release.

That list looks very familiar...
As for anti-cheat systems, don't those generally work as a form of spyware, which is something that PC users are against?
(Personally, I'd just rather not play multiplayer games with randoms.)
