I must confess, I could never get the original to work well for awhile, and by the time I had a nice PC, it felt dated. COnsequently, I never spent much time at all w/it.

Plus AVP1 had this terrible rendering problem with newer Forcewares, basically all you could see was the HUD and distorted lens flares from light sources, everything else was black. Many people adressed nVidia with the issue, I don't know it it has been fixed yet... Yakoob, you have Radeon or nVidia, if nVidia, what FW version you use and does it render properly?

(what somehow make flamethrowers an inefficient last resort weapon in close quarters),
But oh so useful against facehuggers.

You just know that AvP3 will have a QTE where you wrestle with a facehugger.

There is a fan-patch as well as workarounds:

The game's working fine now on XP. Some bugs and crashes remain, but there are still people working on those, if you can believe it :

They're carrying molotov cocktails which they can either throw when they see you or drop when killed.

Ati Radeon x1600 with WinXp, everything seems to be working fine thus far.

Actually that might be true. Some people may find it hopeless if their space station or ship is under attack of superior, dangeous xenomorphs, so the only rational thing to do is to get stoned. But damn, if must be some honest liquor if it burns like that. :p

The best part about the MP is how it works with every different game mode.
Take TDM. You can have a 4v4v4, or a 4v4v4v4 (There's a Weyland-Yutani mercenary team, basically another flavor of Marine), and it's balanced and even to a reasonable degree.
Or, if you just have Predators and Marines, suddenly an 8v5 or 8v4 game is fair. The Preds don't have to worry about aliens, they can stay in thermal mode and get out the big guns. It's like the movies.
Or on Survivor mode, everyone starts as a Marine, but the first person to die becomes an Alien (and then the marines team up), and then every marine who dies becomes an alien as well until all have been converted. You get extremely tense, short-range firefights between the team of Marines and the constantly-spawning aliens.
Basically, the interaction between the races means that depending on the game mode, it can be a radically different experience. Throw in the fact that each race has four classes, plus options like lifecycle (Alien players start as facehuggers) or Queen Molting (!) and it doesn't get stale.
