I only got to play AVP2 multi a couple of times at a local LAN center...great times, though.
It was great when my friend became the queen, and none of us even knew this was possible. Blew our minds. And he was stuck under a catwalk, don't think he ever even got to take a step :p

So I've been playing the AVP1 Marine campaign and after getting stuck billions of times (yea lets make barely visible pathways and random vents you need to shoot out that look like wall textures hooah!) I am finally able to move up, on level 3 now.
However, every time I play it and die after 10 minutes I am like "man, FUCK this game."

You just need to be better at it. Now imagine how well I got on trying to aim with the keyboard.

I guess the Aliens RPG was officially cancelled on the 25th of Feb. :(

The neat thing is getting through levels on your first attempt, after you've finished the game and start replaying it. The game is brutal, but it's just awesome once you're in the groove.
And there's good scope for (
http://ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48226) speed-running the levels, and other self-imposed challenges.

So, was Primal Hunt actually worth it? I heard it sucked major donkey balls.
It should have been called Primal Ambush, at least for the human campaign. There's a section where you have to make your way across a series of rock bridges and you get attacked at the halfway point
every single time. At one point, you see a wrecked truck and some supplies down in a small valley, so you go down to investigate. After stocking up, you start to make your way back up to the path and a wave of warrior aliens attacks you. After killing all of them, you again start to head back only to be attacked by runner aliens. You kill them, start back again and another wave of warriors appears. I think there were 5-6 waves and by the time I was done, I barely had any more ammo than what I started with.

It was short, 3 missions for each species, so it had no extensive plot, but it seemed to be more difficult and what more can be expected from half official datadisc afterall... I never finished the Marine campaign, as holding the flood of aliens at the end, leaping at you from all sides with machine gun for several minutes proved to be too difficult for me.
I tried playing that last part about a dozen times by using the giant mounted turret, but nothing worked. Finally, I figured out a way to beat it that's not even all that hard.
The alien flood doesn't start until you approach the turret. You can walk around the bay for hours and as long as you stay away from the gun, nothing happens. That gun has only one practical purpose; starting the attack. Trying to actually use it to shoot aliens will get you killed every time.
I'm a little sketchy on the details, but I think there were one or two of the portable sentry guns in the bay, plus I had at least one from the previous section. I'm pretty sure that I had three total. When standing behind the mounted gun, there is a stack of crates near the right wall. I took the portable guns and placed them all at the opening between the crates and the wall, facing the direction the aliens come from. I then armed the pulse rifle, ran over to the turret and then quickly ran back behind the boxes. The AI isn't smart enough to go around the boxes, so they all try to come straight at you, directly in the path of the sentry guns, which cut 90% of them to shreds. For the few that get through, use the pulse rifle. Just make sure not to accidentally destroy the sentries.
Doing it this way, the level was over before I realized it. I expected it to take a while and still be a pain in the ass, but I think I only had to kill 3-4 aliens myself and the guns took care of the rest. It almost felt like cheating. :)

I still think that finishing all three AvP1 campaigns on Director's Cut was one of my best gaming achievements. However it was patched version offering 2 saves per level on DC. I think without the ability to save in vanilla, this would be extremely difficult and I'd like to see a maniac who managed to finish the vanilla marine campaign on DC. :p
I couldn't even finish the AvPG levels on DC with just two saves per level. I used a small program called Aliens vs. Predator Gold Hacks, that gave me unlimited saves. Anyone interested can download a copy here;
(
http://www.abcgames.sk/?p=trainery_zobraz&id=202)
Please note that despite being called "Hacks", it doesn't actually change any of the game files. You run the hacks program in the background, then run AvP Gold and it allows you to alter some game parameters, like allowing unlimited saves no matter what the difficulty level, toggling cheats, etc. It's also supposed to let you switch races, but I could never get that to work. Note that when saving, the counter still decreases, but it still lets you save as many times as you want.
It is
NOT a game crack or NoCD patch.

I for one absolutely loved AvP1 more than AvP2. Sure the plot was practically non existant, but sometimes you dont really need one (ie Doom). For it looked alot more realistic incomparison to AvP2`s more cartoonish style and the lighting was better. Also it was a HELL OF ALOT more scarier. Especially in the Alien and Marine campaigns. The predator campaign was much better done in AvP2 I`ll admit.
The predator's cloaking ability was pretty much useless in AvP2. The marines always saw me despite the fact that I was cloaked and a good distance away. In one of the outdoor missions, I was standing on a tree limb, high above a couple marines. I was cloaked, but the second I peaked over the edge, they started shooting at me. In AvP1, you could practically breath down their necks without them seeing you. Also, the energy sifter in AvP2 made the predator campaign too easy. Several times in AvP1, I had to resort to other weapons when my energy ran low, but in AvP2, you can replenish it any time you want. Since healing is also based on energy, it meant that all you needed was a few seconds and you could be back at 100%.
My opinion of the two games;
Aliens vs. Predator Gold - I liked the graphics and the levels. I thought the alien models were perfect and I loved how the alien levels were designed so that you did a lot of climbing. I disliked the fact that the missions weren't related or that the three campaigns didn't intersect with each other. Also, there was a disappointing lack of predator action in the human and alien campaigns. I only remember one in each. I was also disappointed that you never got to fight alongside others of your species in any of the campaigns. The limited saves practically killed the game for me, but the small Hacks program fixed that. Along with my copy, I got Prima's startegy guide, which recommends using tail strikes on the "tougher" androids and which says that the alien can leap almost two stories straight up. This guide was apparently written for the original version, since there's no mention of the bonus levels. When I played, the androids were no harder to kill than humans and I could never seem to leap more than about 10 feet in the air, even if I crouched before the leap.
Aliens vs. Predator 2 - I liked that the levels flowed into each other and that the three campaigns were intertwined. Playing all the stages of the alien life cycle was great, but why didn't the chestburster have the ability to cling to walls? Using the power armor was a lot of fun too. It was also nice to be able to fight along with others of your kind, even if it only happened in a couple spots. I disliked the alien models though. They didn't look as nice as the ones in the first game. Most of the alien levels were kind of boring. I don't really recall any where you had the ability to drop down on an unsuspecting enemy, like in the first game. Every time I tried, they saw me coming and shot me. A couple of the hive levels had the opportunity for climbing, but you really didn't need to. When playing the alien in the colony levels, all the buildings had invisible barriers that would kill you if you tried to climb too far. I really wanted to be able to get outside the elevated pods as the alien, but they wouldn't let you do that. I did it with cheats though. Side note: It wasn't until after finishing the game that I learned that you're just supposed to jump onto the dropship at the end rather than actually fight the queen. Call me crazy, but I replayed that level until I managed to kill her with the minigun. :)

You're supposed to run away?
I always fought her!
mothra on 30/4/2009 at 13:36
killing is the only option !
damn, so you can escape at last....never knew you could play it "stealthy"
I'm sure AvP3 will have pacifist gameplay options :)

That's what the walkthroughs said. After I play a game, I like to read walkthroughs to see if I missed anything. (Assuming I don't need them to finish a level) Most of them said not to fight the queen and to just jump onto the dropship ramp. I think I even read one (or maybe it was a forum post) that claimed that it was impossible to kill the queen. Apparently, you can even avoid the two Praetorians.
I'll admit that killing the queen is pretty hard, but not impossible. I basically switched to the minigun at exactly the right instant, spun up the barrells and then just held the trigger until it died. If you don't do it fast enough though, she'll reach you before you can kill her.
