I saw it and really liked it. Sorry, posted in the "watching" thread.

I'm not going to see it simply because I somehow the algorithms have zoned in on me and I am being relentlessly bombarded by ads for this movie.

And man are the hardcore fans ripping into anyone who gives it a low - average score. Angry Joe copped it in down votes massively after giving it a 6/10. Quite a bit of abuse too. Those anime fans. Gotta watch out for em :p.

For me it's The Rocketeer. Love that movie...
I think you, me and Renzatic are the only ones who do....

Do you expect anything else from fanboys?
They can't help it. They've literally attached their self-identity to franchises and any negative remark against their preferred franchise
feels like a personal attack: (

Right, that explains all the lifelong Star Wars fans who unconditionally loved the prequels OH WAIT.
Idiot.

Can we stay civil and on topic please? Cheers.

Just saw it! I liked it.
Except for the motorball stuff. Perhaps it fits better in the manga/anime/whatever but it felt pretty jarring whenever that came up, like the rest of the plot gets put on hold while Alita plays some roller derby. And then the movie ENDS on that? Uh, ok? Is part 2 gonna be a straight up sport movie or something?
rachel on 25/2/2019 at 21:41
Sort of, the motorball arc originally comes after Yugo's death as Gally finds solace in the game to get over it, and actually runs away from home and cuts ties with everyone, whereas here they kinda weaved the two arcs together. I agree that it is a bit awkward and out of left-field, but I guess they wanted it that way because the full hunter-warrior arc from the manga would not translate well to PG-13 level at all, and they needed something for the action scenes.
I would assume the sequel (if it happens) will connect back to that arc and develop it fully, and kind loop back to the manga chronology, but I have to say the changes they made to the Desty Nova storyline (and the secret of Zalem) are significant enough that I don't really understand where they're planning to go next.

The Rocketeer was totally the bee's knee, yeah.
