In my humble opinion... as long as they're stuck on an arrow shaft their effects will be limited to what different arrow head weights can do...and none of that can avoid ballistics. Plus, I would not want to be Garrett if a gas or fire crystall starts its afterburner.
But that's the old "everything-obides-to-the-laws-of-gravity" approach that can't be used for Thief -heck ppl we got ceilings made out of water in Constantine's house why can't two types of arrows have a special set of flying behaviour? It's also these little weird extras which made Thief Thief in the first place - don't change things which are fine the way they are.

It's clearly debatable as to whether or not T1 and T2 are fine in this regard. Certainly whoever made decisions for T3 thought not.

TDS bashing is getting more incomprehensible every day. :weird:
Observation, not bash. Arrows were more arcie in 1 and 2. You had to apply a bit of judgment and compensate more. I found that more satisfying - the sense of accomplishment was often greater. Just saying.

Which in essence comes down to
RTFM you are told that the Fire and Gas arrows GO EXACTLY WHERE THEY ARE AIMMED. They don't "rise" or fall. They go line of sight.
So, Read the Fucking Manual. :ebil:
No shit, captain obvious.
The argument is why do they have to do this at all? Why can't an arrow behave like an arrow?

So you think "arrows probably don't arc (that's not even a verb according to my dictionary..?!) because water in Constantine's mansion floats at the ceiling" is more believable than "all arrows should show signs of ballistics because all the elemental crystals which are glued to arrow shafts have the same size and probably weight"...? IMHO there is only noteworthy context indicating that arrows behave normally.

Well, I agree that I like weird little things but I'd be against anything far-fetched or unfounded. Fire and gas arrows in T1/2 were simply confusing. If there is ever a Kafka game, I'd accept anything, but in the chaotic world of Thief I'd like to rely on a few things.

Because IT'S MAGIC. This is NOT THE REAL WORLD. THIEF is part "real" and part MAGIC. Or did that not occur to you?
If "Unreal" upsets you so much, don't play the game. Not a complicated situation, or decision. But if it is because you can't develop the skill to make it "work". Then work on learning the "physics" that the game world imposes and practice.

In my very humble opinion justifying every crap with the magic in Thief is very close to nonsense.
@jay pettitte: He thought not? Thinking that arrows should behave in a predictable way is not-thinking?

So you don't like the mixed reality, magic atmosphere of THIEF?
Let's see. We have (Garrett has):
Potions that increase SPEED
Potions that bring you back from near death HEALTH
Potions that defeat gravity SLOWFALL
Crystals that change ordinary arrows into "magical" applications:
MOSS
FIRE
WATER
GAS
We have HOLY WATER that changes the normal water elemental Xtal to kill zombies and spectres
We have Zombies, Spectres that hurl magic bolts or fireballs.
Mages that do the same.
Various unearthly beasties, some genetically enhanced some created by the use of Arcane Magic.
We have Pagan Gods and Goddesses that interact with Garrett.
Artifacts of Magical powers.
Gyphs with the same.
And you are bitching about arrows that might (and in the game context are) be influenced by "Magic"?
Obviously you have problems suspending your "reality". But the entire gaming world means YOU DO JUST THAT. REALITY has no existance in this series of games, and for a good majority of the other games extant, REALITY is non existant.

No.
I think the point is that there's NO GOOD REASON why some arc and some don't. Sure, people here have made up very loose reasoning for it but all in all I think it's safe to admit that the reasons those two arrow types don't arc isn't really justified well, they just do for stylized reasons (i.e. fire arrow being like a rocket).
