Wow, this project looks fun! :D
What would be cool if you could turn all this into a really good executable file (or perhaps a website/downloadable webpages) with information not only on all the people in Thief, but all the monsters, creatures, etc, etc, plus locations and objects and stuff...
And then you could have this huge Thief Database and it would be really cool.
And you could have pictures (if they exist) of each person/place/object/creature, etc, as well.
And you would make it all...and spend most of your life doing so...
And I will sit here patiently until you've made it, and then play with it until getting bored and ignoring it for ever and ever.
What a great project.

Okay, so we'll use "Dewall" and add "(sp.?)" after it.
By the way, my opportunity has arrived so I'm working like mad to pull out all references from the games.
For your consideration, here's a suggested format change for an entry on the list:
Rampone, N., President: (T)-- TMA: "Shipping & Receiving"-- His full name is never mentioned, but he's the top man in charge of Rampone's Dockside Shipping along with his brother(?), Jason.
"N." is the one who handles his tenants' rental contracts and makes the ultimate business decisions...
Rust Gas: (M, T, V)-- TMA: "Life of the Party," "Precious Cargo," etc.-- Also known as "Necrotic Mutox." Karras' secret weapon to destroy all life in The City...
...and so on.
The italicized codes in parentheses represent the reference source of the entrant as follows:
A = Auditory. We hear about the entrant in an in-game conversation.
B = Briefing. We learn something about the entrant in a mission briefing.
M = Movie. We learn something about the entrant in a movie at the end of an act.
T = Textual. We read about the entrant.
V = Visual. We see the entrant in person.

Excellent, and a massive endeavor. You might consider a Outline format.
Thief the Dark Project.
I. Training.
*****A. Keeper xyz llllllllllll
************1. So and so, master of deception blah blah
II. Baffords
*******A. Cutty
*******B. Lord Bafford
Etc.
May be a lot of work though.

St.Yora was listed but no-one ever said anything about him, so here it goes:
Little is known about St.Yora, but he seems to be an important part of the Hammerites history.
We first find out about him in Thief 1 's mission 10 - "Undercover".
In the Hammerite temple, we see his skull on display, and this plaque:
"The sacred Skull of St. Yora, a builder of vision and devout keeper of the faith."
(books\english\M10skull.str)
The only other mention of St.Yora that I know of is the fact that one of the buildings in Thief 1's mission 11 - "Return to the cathedral", was named after him.
I was so intrigued by this, that I included him in both my FMs.
:)

Thanks, *Zaccheus*. A fine example of how the information in a good list can be inspiring. ""
Ah, theBlackman, this IS truly a great endeavor. I shall not be satisfied with a list that leaves anything out, thus finding a format that tells one everything in as short a space as comfortably possible will definitely be a goal for the end product.
A current problem I have is that my CD-ROM drive won't even read the Thief Gold disc I borrowed for this research. It makes a scraping sound like it's too thick to spin in the drive. Any other disc works fine. The one I need I cannot use. I've been able to study the 3 briefings off of the game disc, but I have no access to waves or texts. I'll try to search these forums again for all the info I need. I've been unsuccessful in the recent past in finding all I needed. I need all of the transcripts and texts for the three Thief Gold levels, not some of it or a list of dead links.:nono:
Working on it...:erg:
Heh, heh, I had to edit my previous post because I had the entry for Rampone WRONG! I was going off of memory from January when I made the list I submitted to this thread.:cheeky:

*bump*
I've edited my posted list above in case people are copying it to their hard-drives.
I've removed "Birch" cause he doesn't exist (I coulda' swore:nono:) and added "Diane" and "Larkspur" from the briefing before Sabotage at Soulforge.

So, is there a reasonable limit to the number of times a thread should be bumped before letting it sink into the archival depths?
theBlackman on 3/9/2003 at 02:47
Book it. Then when you, deadman, or maybe even me have something to add or an expansion, post.
Threads of lesser interest and import have languished for years and resurfaced.
I don't think it will get lost in the morass of "delete".

Okay. Well, how's this? In TMA there are seemingly TWO characters named "Ashton." The one in the library that murders his wife and her lover, and the one with the reconnaissance company that maps out the pagan village, Beck o' the Wills. He doesn't speak like a Mechanist fanatic. Too different to assume they're the same? I'd say yes and now I have to figure out a way to make that clear to readers of the list.
