I'm with you on the dull sci-fi part. I dunno what's happened but at some point in the last decade just about all the entertainment media has gotten grey and po-faced. It's really irritating because it all looks the same now.

...who said what about the Bechdel test? I find that most people, right or left, tend to abuse, misuse, and miss the point of it entirely. It's something so simple and straightforward that's been turned into something it's not, just so a bunch of obnoxious ass internet people can find yet another excuse to pull out the Mens Rights spiel, or add another point to their patriarchal victimization scorecard.

It's really very simple. It's not that all movies have to pass the Bechdel Test, it's that more movies should. Everyone out there screaming they're being emasculated by modern culture or out boycotting Pacific Rim are perverting what it's meant to do. Every movie doesn't have to include every race, color, creed, or orientation to pass as culturally relevant, but there should be more movies out there that speak to the different races, colors, creeds, or orientations than there are now. There's a very broad gap between exclusionary and all inclusive for the simple sake of it.

That TV spot worries me. I really hope they nail the tone of this right, otherwise it's going to be another of those awkward two hour cgi fests where nary an emotion is felt, except slight disgust at the fanboy contingent overcompensating for the rest of the crowd watching it.
