I wish the endgame (amongst other things) had been a little less frustrating for Dark Corners of the Earth.
I still haven't finished it, but maybe I will, one of these days. As you guys say, it's not easy to come across a game that evokes the profound eeriness of a classic Lovecraft story.
Speaking of frustration, the same goes for the original AitD. Never did finish it because it was rather difficult at the time, and I couldn't wrap my head around some of the puzzles. Hopefully, the hints won't be as obliquely clued for this one. :)

GOD, don't I know...I have been wondering if we'll EVER get another one that can even hold a candle to it.
Well what about Penumbra? I always got a Lovecraftian vibe from Overture, and I'm sure the new one will keep that up.

I only finished the first one. Liked the others as well, but never got around to it. Still it was a great series, and I was really pissed off about the movie, because it had ABSOLUTELY nothing in common with the game.

Okay, here's the skinny: I spy a fresh, spry PS3 version of AiTD: Inferno for the PS3 for ~25-30 USD. Think it's worth taking a pop at, given the price?
I've already got like seven PS3 titles plus Uncharted 2 by next Monday to finish, so there's this plenty long queue already, but I wouldn't mind having a go as long as it's not the equivalent of wet noodle buttrape. Opinions?
EDIT: Eva - your opinion too. Yes, I know you've played the game and like it as your post states, but I'd love if you could get a little more detailed with the pros as well as the cons. I've read the reviews, and there are many people complaining about the game being irritating, not living up to its potential, and being horrifically tedious at points, so your take on the negatives would be appreciated.

It was supposed to be horror, instead it was just horrible. I played the PC version and the controls were nothing short of awful. I couldn't say how it holds up on a joypad, but I can't imagine it being particularly easy/intuitive to control.
What I saw of the game was pretty dire and my earlier prediction of it being more of some Hollywood-inspired action/'horror' game rather than creepy and Lovecraftian was pretty near the mark. I spent most of my time running around with things burning everywhere and jumping off ledges rather than creeping through dark corridors and being, well,
alone in them.

I recall that the PS3 version got a heap of fixes that were never bestowed upon the earlier 360 and PC versions, so that'll help somewhat.

Watched well over a minute and a half of nice graphics picking up things and swinging them with cheesy music. Nice inventory screen, but give me a trailer that doesn't put me to sleep.

I thouroughly enjoyed AitD on PC, while flawed and having screwed up controls, it at least had interesting gameplay: combining items to create realistic weapons, the use of fire and the story was rather nice. The pc version wasn't great but it wasn't shabby either.
I'd love to play the ps3 version one day because of the so-called better controls.

I ordered the 360 version from play.com yesterday. From pretty much all the reviews and usercomments I've seen about it, it seems to be a hate it or love it kinda game. I figure for 6,49€ it's worth finding out what side of the fence I'll find myself on.
