This game is starting to tickle my interest when reading all of your positive comments here, so I'd like to ask if any of you who liked it very much play it on a console?

I played it on PC, with an Xbox 360 controller. I've heard bad things about playing the game with keyboard and mouse. I did like it very much. It's certainly flawed in a lot of respects, and I wouldn't put it in the same league as Deus Ex, Bloodlines and System Shock, but it's still a lot of fun.
It doesn't make the top ten, but it does make the top fifty.

PC too, on a below min spec graphics card no less. Which made the almost complete lack of stuttering (I'd get a load spike once a level) and instantaneous opening of the clearinghouse all the more baffling- I suspect XP may have something to do with it. I just used KB/M, no controller, and the only significant issue I had was that it was near impossible to do some of the hacking with the keyboard as it didn't do key holding, only key pressing.
And yeah, it is flawed. Bloodline is probably the best comparison point as it too had (and still has) a bunch of minor issues of the types Sulphur listed, though at least AP does not have any Society of Leopold style bugs.

i just finished it in my best run yet. got afaik all the secret intel, uncovered everything, killed marburg, darcry, yancy, parker, saved mina + scarlet, had sexy time with all 3 women and left the island with mina.

Can you leave the island with anyone else? No matter what options I take romance/handler wise for the last mission I leave with her or end up by myself.
I finished my aggressive/assault rifle/smg/toughness run through yesterday. It was surprisingly fun, although not the way I instinctively play games like this. Creepiest sex scene since FEAR 2, that's for sure.

FYI, the level scaling doesn't seem to be based on XP or level, but rather total skillpoints.
A quick edit of a single file can give you 400 skill points at level 0 - but the traps all instantly become difficulty 10. Scale it down to 300, and they're difficulty 7. 100, difficult 5.

7600gt, gunsmoke. I have tinkered with the graphical settings a bit though.

Well, the 6800 vanilla is supported. Is the 7600 GT lower spec than that?
