This patch supposedly is different to the one released earlier even though it's labelled v1.10 as well (s. link to RPG Watch I posted). Very strange, but at least there's a non-US version this time.

For kicks I tried it on Steam version and it worked.

Yeah, it works for digitally distributed copies as well.

Damn, this game is awesome. I KNEW I should have ignored the naysayers.

It's actually one of the most satisfying RPGs I've played. I've never anticipated leveling up so much in a game.

Or you could have just listened when I said it was badass, since I'm more discriminating than deth without being a koki-esque fuckhole.

Yeah, I am learning to trust your opinion quite a bit, JM. In our convos, you have come across as someone who likes a LOT of the same games and for the same reasons no less. I have seen the light now bro.

Ok I bought this game on the advice of a bunch of TTLG'ers who seemed to really like it. And I want to like it. I really do.
But...
Now granted I just started, but so far this game sucks bigger than the biggest Hoover ever made. I hate mini games and suck at them, but usually get the hang of them after a while. I haven't played for more than a half hour and come across 4 or 5 of them already. The mouse is laggy even after changing the ini, and even though I've finally figured out how to lockpick and turn off alarms, the game gives you like 10 seconds to do it. The mouse is so laggy especially lockpicking, that it takes me 3 or 4 seconds just to move it up a couple of inches. I still can't figure out how to hack.
I'm going to try and stick to it, because of some of the praise I've heard here, but what are you guys thinking? I don't really care about graphics and it's a good thing, because these remind me more of NOLF than anything even resembling a game made in the last 5 or 6 years.
So I appeal to you guys who like it. Any advice, especially on the mini games? And is the game completely linear? It seems like it so far, but as I said not very far into it.
I've also noted there's a patch for the game, however I DL'd it from Direct2Drive and they don't have the patch for some reason. I tried to apply the 1.1 patch from the Sega website but it wouldn't install.
Appreciate any help.

Training and the first mission are linear. After that, you pick you from a list of cities and their attached mission, and you can switch locations freely.
When you say you can't figure out hacking, do you mean you actually don't understand what you're supposed to do, or just not how to do it well?
At any rate, if you intend to hack much, you'll essentially have to put points into the related skills. If you don't, they'll be essentially impossible by late game.
