(
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/48422.html?type=flv) P.S. HD version of that walkthrough trailer
Judging by the dialogue choice buttons, I'd say that that walkthrough video was made using the PC build.
Anyway, looking good. Hopefully it's Obsidian's first truly great title. That is if the publisher doesn't rush them again.

Wondering if its the same engine as ME. They're both Unreal 3 it seems, possibly the same development suite?
Yes, both Mass Effect and Alpha Protocol are built upon UE3.0.

Graphics look like something I'd dig up on a ps2.
Nah, the low resolution of the video is just deceptive. UE3.0 games usually look much better in their finished state, unless it's bollocks like Hour of Victory or Turning Point: Fall of Liberty.

I was referring more to the movement, camera and combat model. It currently looks like an ME mod, rather than purely graphical.
Watched the HD one, still not impressed, it just looks a bit shinier. And I'm more convinced about the engine and dev resources, the main character even looks like the ME dude :P

In terms of graphics it looks even worse than in the first trailers. All these locations are built from BSP, static meshes are very simple and almost nonexistent, the materials used on the surfaces are also very, very simple - this engine can do so much more than that. I think that even the Mass Effect, which had some very "sterile" locations (which can be ok, when it comes to a sci-fi setting), actually looked better. Hopefully the gameplay will make up for that.

the time-based conversation option seems a bit pressuring.
That's actually best thing in the video. I only wonder what consequences there will be if you wait for too long.
Things that sucked: Health bars and overhead direction markers(visible through walls, no less).

God damn I love Obsidian. Do any other RPG devs actually understand how to make a morally ambiguous alignment system anymore?

Hm... I'm not too crazy about that timed dialogue system. It's more realistic, sure, but that doesn't mean much to me. It could work out, but I think it's very likely it would annoy me, even if for no other reason than that I know a clock is ticking. Hell, if we're going that route, I suppose in some games you'd have to stop every in-game day to let your character take a crap.
On the graphics side, it currently does look substandard, but I'm inclined to chalk that up to very early level and asset builds.
But anyway, real world setting be damned, I hope this game has no elevators.

Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy did timed dialogue responses too, and it worked well enough there. The concept could fly if the implementation is sound; I for one would welcome some respite from RPG dialogue-tree fatigue.

No. The only thing AP shares with ME is the engine, in the same way that it is shared with Gears of War or RoboBlitz.
The camera is just generic 3rd person action camera, like ME, Gears of War or whatever. As for the combat, it's quite different as you don't control a party, and the melee and stealth systems are much more in depth. What the combat shares with ME is that it's third person and you can shoot things.

God, those graphics SUCK.

engine does look crap but I'm more interested if all those design descicions will play good together with the story, the hubs, time-based responses....right now it looks more like the RPG part of the game is used to make elaborate mission, faction and equipment descisions and then you have the 3rdPersonShooter part that plays very straight-forward since all parameters have been set beforehand.
I hope it's more diverse than that, I would like to play a good spy game.
