An alternative Minecraft server. - by june gloom

If anything, I'm the one with the most to lose here -- maybe you've seen my work? ;)
I want to hear from Al_B, Duck and Zerker before I go ahead with anything.

Apparently the jungle bio will only be present in a new 1.2 map, for whatever reason, so maybe hold off(though no idea when that will be released).
Lavas not that hard to clean up(in creative mode anyway)

There's a 1.2 pre-release in the link I posted for clients & servers, but looking back at it, it's probably too much to expect people to install that by hand, as opposed to the official updates you do in-game, so scratch that idea until 1.2 official comes.

The main problem is the lava is what's dragging the server down. There's a LOT of it.

I've not built much at all on the server - most of my time has been spent exploring, but it would be a shame if we do a wipe without trying other alternatives first. If we can remove the lava by some off-line method (e.g. using MCEdit) that would at least allow us to find out if that's the cause of the instability.

Just to add my pointless 2 cents, I wouldn't be too concerned if the server was reset. I've not really built much at all, only quietly building not much in particular, nowhere in particular, with no particular aims or idea of what I might eventually end up with.
It would be good to retain things if we can though, obviously. I've enjoyed occasional trips to see what folks are doing around the busier parts, and it would be a shame for anyone to have their efforts lost to the unstable void that is Minecraft.

Is the server turned off right now? I can't actually connect to see how things are (aside from the screenshots).
I don't have a huge preference either way. My place isn't really that big, relatively speaking.
However, if we salvage, I will volunteer to join the bucket brigade and help extinguish the lava.

Any chance of leaving it on? Some of us DO want to try and repair whatever damage there was.
Zerker on 31/1/2012 at 22:42
Well, I talked to Dethtoll on Steam chat yesterday, and it sounds like the server is so unstable that it doesn't even let people attempt repairs before they get disconnected again.
