I'd definitely say A), but a little bit of B) too becauseI found Gears very homoerotic. The camaraderie, oh!
I'm probably biased though, because I find CliffyB to be a cock of colossal proportions. He also reminds me of the sort of young chum you might find in a Greg Araki film arseclimbing a tower of chicken hawks one shaft at a time, sans pacy dialogue.

I'd say it's C, rather than A or B, where C is:
C) A very deliberate concoction of mindless, challengeless action, faux grittiness, loads of blood and homoeroticism disguised as manliness, painstakingly created in order to appeal to the male teenager/young adult demographic.
Gears of War is, first and foremost, an impressive achievement in marketing. As a game it's a pretty incompetent design.

I actually think it stems from an argument with Aja on this board about CliffyB's intentions when creating Gears of War. However, I think Aja said himself that he never said Gears of War was post-modern but tongue-in-cheek and...it really is.

No, it's a shitty game played straight that people want to think is tongue-in-cheek so they don't have to admit to themselves that Gears of War is so generic as to be offensive. There's a reason "ten shitloads" is a meme now.
