Judging by texture/character quality it looks like it was a scene scripted with UE engine matinée tool, with some post-pro work. Anyway, I hope that Epic will have the guts to kill the delta team and all that's left in human camp :)

*Sigh* Continuing the tradition of having pretentious pre-rendered trailers which reflect the actual games in this franchise as about as well as cream corn.
The Gears of War games have possibly the coolest game trailers ever. I can't believe you're gonna rag on them just because they don't reflect the actual gameplay experience, you can youtube gameplay videos for that. Trailers like (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL_ZjJgbDmc) The Last Day, and (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3Fh6-sDtEA) Rendezvous with Death are good enough to stand on their own even without the games behind them.
In other news I ordered GoW2 yesterday (12 euros on play.com). Never played the first one, are there any important plot points I need to know? Whats the story anyway? Orcs done stole Burlyman's woman and now he's rounded up his friends to help get her back?

um, something about marcus' dad is a traitor, there's a locust queen that gives monologues, and dom's wife is missing. Also Marcus looked at Anya kinda funny once in the first game, so somethin might be going on there
Also also they had to find the resonator, and set off the light mass bomb, and thankfully they managed to do both of those things.

Basically humans colonised the surface of a planet inhabited by the Locust who live underground. The humans didn't know that the native alien race lived below the surface, but the natives left the colonists be for a few centuries.
In the aftermath of the extraterrestrial surface dwellers having several wars over a valuable resource (Emulsion), the Locust had had enough and wanted to drive these assholes off their planet. Blah, blah, blah the game is set some years after "Emergence Day", when the Locust first attacked and wiped out the majority of the surface population.
I'm sure there's more on Wikipedia.

As far as I know, the humans never "colonized" the planet. They had always lived there. Gears 2 seemed to imply the entire reason for the Locust emerging was that they needed to escape the underground due to the lambent.

(
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/gearsofwar3/news.html?sid=6258108&mode=news) FOUR PLAYER CO-OP CAMPAIGN, FUCK YEAH. I'll definitely get a short period XBL Gold subscription again exclusively for this.
Weren't they originally planning to have 4-players for Gears 1's campaign? The fact that there's four men in Delta Squad definitely suggests that.
P.S. The thing you have to know about the Gears of War series is that it's designed with co-op in mind. Playing it solo isn't even a half of the experience that co-op play is. Most of the fun that I've had with these games have been coordinating strategy with buddies over VoIP; ridiculing the horrendously bad narratives and dialogue, George Lucas-esque attempts at being dramatic in the cutscenes, etc.
