most of those who are dying are old with other complications......
It's like any other respiratory infection, in that it isn't the bug that kills you, but the pneumonia that follows it. The very old, and the very young are the ones most likely to be fucked by it.

both groups are able to stay home under self quarantine in order to avoid infection as much as possible.

Yeah, but what about their caretakers? We're talking about something that's twice as infectious as the flu, and can be spread about before anyone shows a single sign of sickness.
Given that these two groups usually need assistance from more mature or able bodied members of society, there's absolutely no way you can guarantee anyone's safety outside of putting them all in high level hazmat containment.

That's three different Democratic candidates, pulling out of the race within a day or so of Super Tuesday. First Steyer, then Buttigieg, and now Klobuchar. They already put in the campaign effort and spent the money to compete tomorrow, so why not stay in one more day and see what happens?
The writing was on the wall -- they were all trailing the frontrunners. Buttigieg was the only one who got even close to having a chance, but he never got any traction with black voters. Meanwhile, Biden, Bernie, and Warren all have consolidated a wide base of support. Especially Bernie who has been doing very well with Latino voters.
Frankly, I'm surprised they didn't drop out sooner. The only thing they would accomplish by staying is hurt the chances of Biden. And why Bloomberg is still staying after that humiliating first debate and a disastrous second one, I can't really fathom either. He must be a masochist or something.

So, Lord Dampnut met with the heads of pharmaceutical companies in what looked a lot like a mix of fawning praise for the dear leader and trying to explain thermodynamics to a dog. And after all that effort they spent, Lord Dampnut still seemed to think a vaccine was only a couple of months away and in one crowning moment of stupidity suggested using a flu vaccine: (

From what I've read, a vaccine candidate has been developed. It just has to go through further research, and at least a couple of human trials before it can be released to the general public. That puts it at least 8 months away.
If one comes out sooner than that, I sure as fuck won't be taking it.

Yeah. ...Right down the street from me, actually, lol. But it's just one step in a process, and really the more candidates the better because these things aren't always safe and effective out of the gate.

Exactly, which is why these vaccines will need to be tested and retested again.
The worst thing that could happen is that they rush an untested vaccination out to a fretful public so Trump can have something to brag about on TV, and it ends up bringing about unintended consequences for millions of people.

Well thank you for that cheery thought.
