Is it 7,000 migrants now? That's like Trump's 1,000, no 10,000, no 1,000,000 jobs created by the Saudi agreement!

I should add that I'm not exactly sure we can do about this migrant caravan. Whether it's 2,000 or 10,000, the numbers constantly expand and contract depending on what source you're reading, it's not exactly an easy problem with a simple solution. I think this might be the largest number of people we've seen seek asylum at once in the US since probably WWII. It isn't just a simple case of letting them in, and hoping for the best.
The thing I take issue the most with here are the people are who reveling in the suffering these people are experiencing, flying their politics high in the midst of a human crisis, callously responding with the usual sniveling sarcasm so often applied by the usual suspects in situations like these.
These people are festering pieces of dogshit.
And yeah, maybe I am being a little overly emotional in my response here. It's kind of sickening seeing human decency, even in situations such as this, become so political. Though for a little bit of bounce back in the face of such pure shittery, I'm going to enforce an entirely conditional rule that only applies to one person.
Which reminds me. Vae, if you ever accuse anyone here of leaning on unthinking, reactionary emotionalism in lieu of a logical conclusion as a retort, I'll ban you from TTLG permanently. Think of it as a kind of backhanded favor. You'll actually have to struggle to use the logic and facts you claim to love, follow adroitly, and so often defend, to rely upon them exclusively to bolster the opinions you make here. I'm actually giving you the perfect excuse to be the person you want to be, the person you always tell us you are. This is a chance to walk the walk you talk of walking.
You're welcome. :D

You know, the sad part is our farmers could use them. Texas welders could. They could get guest worker status for jobs none of us take. Of course no Republican is interested in anything but using them as a boogey man that only they can save us from. Nevermind there is no way they could vote or apply for welfare. They claim they can and their followers are stupid enough to swallow it. Hell, Repubs are doing every underhanded thing they can think of to suppress votes of those who might vote Democrat and are perfectly legal. I'm sure everyone knows about the Atlanta governors race.
Anyway Vae's post reminded me of this one a Texas Preacher I used to go to school with and I've tried to be friends with in spite of his heinous views and hatred posted on FB. I had to correct him. Luckily I only had to click the pic then post another's reply I copy pasted. Even before that I had posted they looked like American Indians and therefore maybe WE should leave instead of them as he had suggested.

This was a picture taken in 2010 after the Government took 4 of their children off the Reservation because of lack of food in the house. Although the Crow Indian Reservation is still 125.000 acres and the children have been returned after they explained their culture as to each tribal member providing Food & Education with an open door policy and showing the Food Pantries and Community centers for all of their children. The government still wants to push on them to accept help they refuse it to this day. The lawsuit that was filed and settled by the federal Government over the water rights and passage to their land awarded the Tribes $456 million and they have not seen one dime of it. It brought alot of anger out in the Crow Indians when the Federal Government put 4 children in Foster care for almost 2 years while they waited on them to be returned. Disruption of Culture to such proud people that the dollar means nothing compared to their way of life, this was disrespectful to them so they are showing disrespect back.
So you see, hatred and ignorance should NOT be our go to response.
Only the first and last sentences are mine.

Our law school class moot trial was on the law that covers that issue, the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), which restricts when and how you can take a child off of the reservation into foster care, balancing best interest of the child and the interests of the nation, deferring to the nation & keeping the child inside of it whenever possible. People get emotional on both sides. The law's there but you still have to argue it in court & go through the whole process. This kind of expression of pure frustration and exasperation with the whole system is definitely fair game though.
One dumb thing about the politics in our era is how symbolic it all is. People don't care about the details of policy; it's just and endless parade of value signalling and symbolic acts, and people getting so worked up about them as if it's their business, and the art of policy-making is the first thing that gets thrown under the bus. I'm very classical liberal on the whole thing. Let people raise their voices and have their symbolic acts, especially if it's in defense of the vulnerable. It's important to them, it can lead to social change or at least reflection, and the constitution protects them having it. The whole idea of attacking people for expressing their honest opinion is foreign and very off-putting, not just to me but to what are supposed to be American values.

As far as Vae's random picture from Breitbart (of people who might be some ethnicity or nationality with some unspecified complaint against the USA (or might be actors posing for a Breitbart propaganda shot), does anybody else see the shape of the Macdonald's Golden Arches in the flames?
Symbolic, no?
I suspect that fast food has killed more Americans in a year than terrorists have in history.

(
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/24/nyregion/clinton-obama-explosive-device.html) Three Explosive Devices Sent to Clintons, Obama and CNN Offices
Quote:
Explosive devices were sent to former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as to CNN's offices in New York, sparking an intense investigation on Wednesday into whether a bomber is going after targets that have often been the subject of right-wing ire.
[. . .]
The device sent to CNN was contained in a manila envelope addressed to John Brennan, who was the C.I.A. director in the Obama administration and is a harsh critic of Mr. Trump [. . .] The return address bore the name of Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Florida congresswoman and a former Democratic National Committee chairwoman, according to a person who saw a photograph of the envelope. The device sent to Mr. Soros was contained in a similar envelope also with a printed return address label with her name.
I guess mail bombings are back in fashion again.
Renzatic on 24/10/2018 at 18:38
Yup, followed by the usual responses from the usual crowds.
Remember when mail bombs weren't treated as partisan wedge issue? I do. Those were good days. Now, it's all "see how violent Republicans are!" "NO! It's the Democrats mailing bombs to themselves to gain sympathy for the midterm elections!"

Yeah. On the other hand I have a few hundred to bet on a right wing nut if anyone wants to take me up on it. A further fifty that it's an Alex Jones nut.
