Am always Happy To Share BDB ;) when I have something worth sharing. I do try to stop in now and then...I like your v6 UBB better than the stone axes and whatnot I have over at Eidos
According to GRAVIS : Uninstall all references to Gravis Controller Software (especially if you have Multiple Entries!) and Download and Install DirectX 8.0a and the Latest Version of the Gravis software, which is version 4.42.
The error seems specific to to the 4.41 version, some folks got past it by installing Older versions of Gravis.
Here is Gravis' Official Response :
Download the latest Directx from this link: (
http://www.microsoft.com/directx/) http://www.microsoft.com/directx/
Upgrade to the latest Xperience software.

1. Unplug the controller from the PC USB port.
2. Go to START then SHUTDOWN, then choose RESTART the computer. As the PC is restarting, start tapping the F8 key every second or two until you see a Windows Startup Menu. From the Start Up menu, choose option # 3 for Safe Mode.
3. In Safe Mode, open the Control Panel, then double click the System icon. Click on the Device Manager Tab.
4. In the Device Manager, we need to remove :
a. All instances of the Gravis controller
b. Any entries under Human Interface Devices (skip this step if you have a USB keyboard!)
c. Anything under ‘Other' or ‘Unknown' Devices
d. Any doubles of the Gameport driver under Sound Video and Game Controllers. If there are doubles, remove ALL listings of your gameport driver.
To look for these, you will need to click on the plus (+) in front of each category to expand that particular category. Now you will be able to look for any of these entries.
To remove an entry, you will need to click on the entry to highlight it and then click on the REMOVE button
5. Once ALL of these have been removed, exit out to your desktop and go to START then SHUTDOWN, then RESTART the PC.
6. Let the PC boot into normal mode.
7. Plug the USB controller back in. You may want to try the 15-pin gameport instead (Xterminator/Eliminator Precision Pro) if you believe the PC may have USB issues.
8. Check the controller in the Game Controllers icon to see if it is there with a status of OK.
Keep in mind before removing any drivers from the Device Manager that you may need a driver disk or the Windows 98 CD when the PC boots into normal mode. We do not and cannot provide drivers for anything except the Gravis controller, your actual gameport is covered by the soundcard manufacturer. You would need to contact the product manufacturer for drivers if you do not have the disk.
