Good luck,
The pool I mentioned was the one underground, below the church.
I just opened it up in dromed and I was wrong, there is a regular mine behind the crate.
The Fire Eater on 13/2/2007 at 00:08
Hah, guess I was mistaken as well then...so I must have found explosive mine there ILO armory...so now I wonder where the gas mine was/is hiding...I'll venture to guess, inside Barracks? Oh well, hopefully it won't be needed...thanks for checking anyway. Ta and Good Hunting!
OK, I'm back with an UPDATE: I'm having difficulty in figuring out how to approach cage area...
So here we go. Bj'd the Servant/Priest(?) at the alter (was wearing a costume like a Priest I guess) but saw nothing to pick from him. Apparently, you were saying the Priest in the Church had the key thing and a secret switch was in Church not the Chapel is that correct?
Okie dokie..now here's thing. There is nothing but lights, lights and more lights with no switches for turnoffs. I have looked through curtain and see man(?) on a table at the far end and my sweetie on the other end in cage and control panel nearby. Looks like all metal flooring with high points (looks like a rail of some sort, even to the extent that the control panel could potentially move on the one it sits on?) requiring jumps to get over them. OK, I've got a few moss arrows left and looks like I'll need three (one for ramp going down into room and one each for jump to/from places). I've looked up and noted beams for possible escape method as per an earlier post for me. But then what??? The key he leaves, is it to cage door or something else? Is that why that other player bashed part of the cage in order to get to her? From what I can see, there are two buttons or whatever on panel, you said third comes up. Is that the one to stop the machine/what are the other two for? Do I have to deal with any enemies on the way out to the elevator? I know this is basically a walkthru question/answer thread but it's what I need at this point...otherwise I just don't want to reload several times to maybe get it worked out and/or still need to come back to ask similar questions.
Hoping you won't mind that I am asking for all this detailed information but I would at least like to see it to it's conclusion somehow. :)
Thank you Dyald or anyone that might want to respond in the meantime...cause I'm unable to proceed without getting this help.

yup

Since this a kind of old fm, I am giving away more than usuall anyway, and have been thinking about making a walkthrough, but I'm just too lazy.
Ok, there may be a better way to do this, but this always works for me.
A complete spoiler:
once you have taken out all the bad guys on the top floor,( this part can not be ghosted) cover the area from the the cage door to the control panel with moss . but don't go near the cage door until you are finished exploring the area.
look at the buttons on the control panel the center should not have a button, when you get out of the trap there will be one then.
when you aproach the cage door, you trigger a telaport trap that will put a cage around you but with bashable boards for a celing.
you have time to listen to talanvor when he comes out to gloat then start breaking boards (but don't take your time either) if you get out before he leaves, he telaports out, so you can't get him. Break the two or three boards furthest from the cage, then use a rope arrow to get out you will need another to get back in.
Remember the moss I suggested? when Tal leaves, a bunch of those creatures appear throughout the city one will be in the hallway just outside the chaple. so when you jump around, make sure that you jump on moss(untill Tal leaves, you can make as much noise as you want so you might want to get out before he does. if you draw the monster stand on top of the boards of the trap and throw what you can at him (he can be killed like a zombie ie holy, fire, flash and your sword)) .
the key to the cage door will be on the control panel as well as a new button. (all other buttons do nothing) press the button to stop the girl from getting squished. It moves real slow but If you run into dificulties, it will kill her.
When you press the switch and stop the trap, the girl faints, (you will know if she dies instead because the mission should end)use another rope arrow to get back over, use the new key to get the girl then use the ropes again to get out.
if you make noise then you will be attacked by the monster, drop the girl and run to the elevator to get away then wait awhile and go back for her. If you are quiet and VERY slow, then you can sneak past without the moss, but moss is really better in this area.
After that, you need to avoid the monsters and get home, (they do not see well, but they hear good)
That's very nice of you and should be helpful for the most part. A couple of things I don't quite understand yet.
you say...
Quote: Break the two or three boards furthest from the cage, then use a rope arrow to get out you will need another to get back in. Unquote
This a very confusing to me.
Are you saying break boards in my trapped cage furthest from from her cage to get to the control panel? But why would I get back in (my trapped cage)?

When you press the switch and stop the trap, the girl faints, use another rope arrow to get back over,(get back over where? use the new key to get the girl then use the ropes again to get out.
You have me use key to open cage door to get girl but rope out with her?
Why do I need to rope out of cage with girl since I have a key to open door? Is this key to open her door a trigger for the monster to come in? So why do I need to use it at all, since you have me roping in and out of her cage as well it seems? I don't really how that's possible since no beam is close enough to her cage, and has a metal ceiling over her head area. How in the blazes am I supposed to rope out with her?
Back to breaking wood...
are you saying for me to start breaking the wood in my trap (since it makes noise) that I should start doing this while Talvador in still in the room then, is that what you meant? Am I to break any of those wood stakes on her cage for any reason or not?
Also, I only have three rope arrows and that's only because other places, as needed I retrieved them, so I don't understand how I'm supposed to do all this roping in and out of these places as such?
Thank you again Dyald...and hope you can clarify a bit more so I have a better understanding overall. Sorry for being such a pest...

The Fire Eater:
First, I gave you what I thought was the best way to do it but not the only way.
Ok, I don't know how far you got so I will assume you haven't tried yet,
The trap is a cage without a door and the only way out is to bash the boards that make up the roof, you can bash any or all of them.
You should bash the boards that are under the wood beam, so that you can use a rope arrow to get out go to the control panel to get the key that opens the door to the girl's cage, using the key does not trigger anything, but whenever tal leaves, that triggers the appearance of the beasts.
To use the key, you need to get back to the cage door, which is inside the trap, so you need to get back in the trap.
Once you get the girl climb the rope to get back out again (you can do this with the girl.)
I may have confused you with my terminology, here I am saying "cage" referring to where the girl is and "trap" is where you will be when you try to open the cage door, By the way If you don't try to open the cage door, the trap will not spring. You can not rope out of her cage you can not get in it untill you get the key, Talanvor has the key and will not give it to you untill he leaves. ( he leaves it on the left side of the control panel)
I use two rope arrows to be as quiet as possible, but I suppose it can be done with just one (And since I know where the trap is, I place them and the moss before I set it off.;) )

Back to breaking wood...
spoiler:
are you saying for me to start breaking the wood in my trap (since it makes noise) that I should start doing this while Talvador in still in the room then, is that what you meant? Am I to break any of those wood stakes on her cage for any reason or not?
I just meant that you could, but you don't have to.
You should just dive in and try to pick the lock on the cage door and see how it plays out, then come back and read this again, It might make more sense then.
That should do it, please let me know how things turn out.

Just a quick thank you in advance for your help before I try this most complex setup you've created. I'll give you credit for your very ingenious thought process on this and working this out to make all this happen. But at least, in the future when other gamers play it (although I understand the majority have already played it) they will get some much needed insight how to figure this part out as well. So between the other players Q&A's and mine...it will take the place of a walkthru that you thought you might make but due to other circumstances, felt you didn't want to...which is understandable. :)Thank goodness for the most part, Nightwalker does much of this kind of thing for us poor hapless Taffer's. :)
I have a little better picture now why certain roping actions are required in getting us both out of confinement..I just hope I'll have time enough
but since there's so much light before I can get into darkened areas in Chapel, I think there's a good chance I might not make it before monster. I don't have any holy potions but hopefully what I do have will be enough! I did get one speed potion and I think I know where I'm going to have to use it. That incline and across plaza w/fountain seems the most likely situation, etc. I'm thinking since I'll have to carry her too...Eeeyaaa!
:D
Hopefully sometime tomorrow I'll be able to relate results. Keeping fingers crossed....ha ha
EDIT: 2/15 about 3:45 PST...layed out a couple more moss arrows inside room and took a look around.
There are three buttons on the Control panel...not two? I thought a third one was supposed to pop up after he leaves key and disappears? So did you change that or is that the way it's supposed to be on Hard? So is that third middle button for the gas or what?
My computer shut down on me so I had to reboot, etc. I didn't save it after I used moss arrows so need to redo that part. I also had shot one moss arrow on metal ramp going into room but did it from the floor area inside and they didn't spread on ramp but ended up in a small pattern around itself in one spot on it? I don't understand that and can't remember that happening anywhere before?
The Fire Eater on 20/2/2007 at 02:44
Also please read post above as it has a question about buttons, etc.
Now I have another problem with this area.
I had another go with putting down moss arrows and this time I went over to her door area to see how it played out. I started hacking the boards above me while he talked and got three of them out as fast as I could. Then I tried shooting rope arrows...lost one due to bad aim as I hit metal trying to get one near control area, then quickly tried to figure where I needed to shoot next. I screwed up placements especially the one for me to get out, (again I did not save beforehand, so I could redo as I found I would have needed to do anyway the way it turned out).
My problem was, while trying to use rope arrows and get out, she apparently died as I got mission fail. I saw no wall that crushed her? If all this plays out the way it seems to be doing...I won't be able to finish this. There is no way I can see time enough to get from point A to B as well as getting rope arrows where they need to be, etc. Even with the head start of breaking boards, there really doesn't seem enough time for me (at least) to accomplish all this. If that crushing wall is supposed to be slow moving...it wasn't slow enough for me. :( If it comes down from the top..perhaps I needed a gas arrow afterall, in order for her to fall to the floor and allow more time before it hit her or whatever? That part just seemed to happen faster than what I thought it was going to as it turned out. Believe me I was trying to be fast...even if I'd of managed the rope arrows better, I still believe I would not have had enough time. I know you'll say others were able to do it but I guess I'm not fast enough or something.
So I guess after all this effort and your kind help, I think I'm SOL...and I'll just have to be happy with what I did get done and go on to the next chapter. I'm really not happy with this result as I don't like leaving without completing but it's a bit too much for me sadly I think.
I really don't understand how all of a sudden she was dead? There was nothing to be seen other than I saw her body on floor, nothing showing to indicate what killed her or from where it came briefly before mission fail notice??? Since there was supposed to be a moving wall of some sort, I didn't see it before or after it killed her. Did it retrack as soon as it hit her or was this just an assumed condition and therefore strictly on a timer?
I am curious about this part in any case. Maybe I'll want to try it again sometime later but for now I want to move on and think about something else in the meantime. :)

The Fire Eater:
The buttons,
I don't remember how many buttons were on the panel, but when you get out there will be a new one.

After reading your last post, it seems to me that you did it the right way, but need to bust the boards quicker, (if you hit them with overhead swings, it only takes a couple of hits per board), and be sure of the rope placement.
The wall comes down from the top, it only has to get near her because of the way dromed works, it doesn,t actually touch her before she drops.
As I said earlier you can do it without rushing, but you can't take your time either.
If you have had it with D.I.D. go ahead and move on, maybe you can try again later,
Try an easier level next time, there really is a big differance in the levels
The Fire Eater on 20/2/2007 at 21:26
Thank you Dyald...I appreciate the reply and if I do try again I'd rather just use my save ILO starting over and playing on Easier would just defeat all my hard work to get where I am... ;)
I can really see even more now where a gas arrow would have really helped in this situation to knock her down! I think there was supposed to be one or was it just a gas mine you had in the game, like maybe up in the barracks? Too bad the only way out, if you went up through window, was out the main gate..or for sure wouldn't want to try gate to Mansion side either with Watcher/guard at front door and two servants patrolling the grounds...in fact I'm not even sure if you could get in the Mansion that way since I found no Front Door going back out that way (like maybe it was a false door?). Perhaps there was one, but I didn't find it in my travels while inside even though I tried looking for one, since I did see that area in the first place from my hiding spot in the empty guard room inside that tunnel when I tested going up into that window with my rope and later went back into my earlier save to re-enter through the back way.
I figured the crushing action came down from the top although apparently I missed seeing it while trying to shoot my arrows, etc. Is that small button on top of the panel the gas button to knock her out? What does the button with the fancy "B" on it do? I assume the button that does appear is the one to shut machine off? Therefore, I would need to trigger both of them so I don't have to take the time to BJ her...
:D
Alright then, I shall keep these little tidbits in mind should I try again later, and see how I do in the next one in the meantime. Later and thanks again!
dyald on 21/2/2007 at 23:50
The Fire Eater:
just hit all the buttons when you get out, the others do nothing.
That main door, where the gaurds talk about the barron, goes into the wall around the mansion, there is a lever on on the opposite wall that opens the gate to the courtyard.
The main door to the mansion is heavily guarded and is not the best way in. So, there is no false door, it sounds like you just missed the lever that opens the second gate.
If you go in through the window, why not leave the same way?, There is a passage that you have probably found that goes into the tunnel very near the window. the switch for it is under a wine bottle in the street. the passage is the one where you get into the mansion.
I just remembered that I took the gas arrow out because you could use it to knock out Talanvor and that would mess every thing up.
