Anyway crysis was pretty good, and very pretty. Jurassic Park in game format.
A Jurassic Park game made with the
Crysis engine would be fucking awesome, now that you mention it.

The only game that I think can be genuinely called a G.T.D. is Warmonger: Operation Downtown Destruction. It's a F2P UT-esque multiplayer FPS that was bankrolled by Aegia to show off hardware accelerated PhysX effects. Nvidia later released an updated version with new maps.

I wanted to post the same game, forgot how it was called. that was an show-off for the physics-card before nvidizilla swallowed them.

Good points, Wormrat.

Trespasser is actually among the games I've enjoyed the most, granted I played it later with no illusions, knowing what had gone wrong. Whereas I consider Doom3 THE worst "game" I've laid my hands on. At one point I had to decide whether to just stop playing or disable the monsters, so the environment and normalmap whore in me could at least get a site seeing tour through the remainig game world.

keep an eye on (
http://www.moddb.com/mods/lost-world-returns) this mod. As with many ambitious mods I wouldn't get my hopes up too much, but at least something to check in on every now and then.

If Doom 3 is the worst game you've ever played you must lead a pretty charmed goddamned life.

What about Fracture?
The demo seemed to me like it was pretty much a tech demo for the terrain-morphing feature, with no actual gameplay.
I'd call Force Unleashed a glorified tech demo, but there was actually some fairly decent gameplay to go with the shiny.

I don't have time to play a large amount of games, so I try to be a bit selective. I'm not claiming it's the worst game ever made, just the worst* I've ended up playing. I also thought it was the best looking one at the time, which is why I bothered walking through the whole game, to at least get to see all the nice work the artists had produced.
I'm sure games like Sniper(?) are in a whole different category of suck, but like I said I try to filter out those to begin with.
* as in mind numbingly boring/tedious/unexciting, lack of entertaining gameplay. Not as in bad production value or through and through rotten.

Trespasser was experimental, not a GTD. I mean, it tried new things in gameplay, but what TECH was it supposedly showing off?

When I first played Doom 3, believe it or not but I think that was the first time I had a first person game present a story heavily through recordings of dead folks. I really enjoyed that and the loner atmosphere. And I did like the gameplay for the most part. IMO id is good at developing games with quality "evil shit" atmosphere.
And then I played System Shock 2 for the first time, realized how much Doom3 had "borrowed" from it, and subsequently Doom3 lost a good bit of its initial charm for me. :)
Also, I didn't find FEAR to be much better than Doom3.
I heartily heart STALKER SoC, btw.
