Like fuck you can.
HL2 and MP2 are both slick action vehicles that offered environmental interaction as part of compellingly fun gameplay that offered varying scenarios and mechanics to maximise their tech features for entertainment value, but they also feature high quality voice acting, in game story delivery and artistic detail/design far superior to most other offerings in the genre.
And Doom 3's per-pixel lighting was just there to show off, right? Contributing absolutely nothing to the atmosphere and sense of dread that the game designers aimed to deliver, combined with the sound design to deliver a complete package (that goes up several notches when using EAX4.0 effects.)?
A lot of people can forgive a game's obvious design faults like (i.e. "if you pick up the ammo at the end of hall and Imps spawn on your arse". Actually Dead Space had those as well.), recognise a game's strengths and humbly commend what was actually done well. If they couldn't then games like Stalker and ArmA certainly wouldn't have any followings.
Once again, calling Doom 3 a glorified tech demo is a cop out argument.

If you have any desire to replay it I urge you to correct that, Crysis really reveals itself with the Delta difficulty level.
It reveals that its AI is capable of seeing and shooting you from hundreds of feet away, through thick foliage, whether or not you're invisible.
It's also annoying how much damage they can each take.

Never had insane AI in Crysis. Far Cry, sure, but Crysis, no.
And health doesn't matter if your every shot is a headshot

Hmmm..
Crysis on Delta difficulty, from a gameplay standpoint, is definitely the one of the most memorable single player shooters I've ever played. It's the strategy and tactics that the game requires you consider to succeed at that level that does it for me. You can achieve the goals in many different ways. Reminds me of TTLG's "sacred" RPG/FPS genre in a way, actually, but in a hands on instead of dice roll style. You can actually achieve some goals with zero killing if you want to.
Oh and it's pretty too. Can't ignore that. I play games cuz they put visuals on the screen and so do all of you unless you're big into text-based gaming perhaps. It's not bad from the audio perspective either. And I thought the AI's squad tactics were cool to watch and deal with/avoid. Hmm, and the simulated bullet physics, destructible buildings, vehicle variety, all equaled some extra fun.
Yea the story is definitely not super awesome and I don't like the aliens much because that half of the game removes a lot of the strategy from the earlier levels and brings some cheesy boss fights.
But hey if you wanna hate the game go right ahead. I hate a lot of games too, just not this one. :)

Wrong
The AI will shoot in your general direction if they see you go stealth, also when stealthed you are not 100% invisible, its like predator, once they know you are there they can sort of track you a bit, but its very inaccurate. And if you move slowly they may not see you at all, unless alerted. They will not see at all if you are hidden in foliage. I've crawled up to/past/behind many enemy soldiers while hidden isn the jungle.
Delta FTW (seriously, playing it on anything easier is just a waste of time)

IRL, modern body armors can pretty much take that much damage. And Crysis is a scifi game anyway, so I alway thought it's pretty much believeable. Only difference is that IRL it hurts being shot, while in Crysis (or in almost any game for that matter) enemies run around after being shot as if nothing have happened, just with their HP decreased.

I just had to lol at this. The master of contradiction is accusing a pretty good game with a pretty good gamey plot of bad writing. (The rest of your statement is patently ridiculous too)
Dude, god help the people who have to live with you.
Edit:
If you can't run the Crysis don't whine, just buy a 360 and be satisfied with horrifyingly generic games.
Go die in a washing machine accident, spermburper. My system can handle Crysis just fine, thank you very much. Doesn't make it a better game. The gameplay is shit and the plot is typical Hollywood summer blockbuster trash.
Chade on 25/8/2009 at 21:29
If you can call HL2, MP2, and Crysis glorified tech demos, then the phrase has lost all meaning. All three games have some brilliant game design in them.
BTW dethtoll, you really do suck at Crysis. We know you've got a brain up there, so go use it. And make sure it's on delta difficulty! (it's true that the plot is trash though, but no one disagrees with that)

Except DaBeast apparently.
And no, I'm not going to reinstall Crysis. Not making that mistake again. It reminded me too much of FarCry and that didn't get installed more than twice either.

If all your per-pixel lighting does is set up a gloomy room for closet monsters and totally unimaginative gameplay then I would say it contributes very little indeed. It's a backdrop. It's the stage on which a very boring play is set.
That is not true of the other games you listed.
