14. A rope hanging from the ceiling doesn't mean a thief is around, but very specific footsteps do.

46: If you don't have the invisible second key, as mentioned in 20a, and you need to get through a locked door, just stand in front of it. Another guard or servant will help you.
47: If you see another guard forlornly standing in front of a locked door, he might have lost his key and deserves no help.
48: In the presence of the nobility, including the ones you work for, you must continue your usual humming, whistling and muttering.

49. If a thief jumps from the top of a 10-storey building using your body as a cushion, you must absorb the full force of the impact without taking damage, and forget that it ever happened.

50: Learn to take any fall with ease.
*41a: If you get stuck, just keep moving in place. That wall will move eventually.

51. If you see a fellow guard slain, blame the thief as an assassin. And forget about it 10 seconds later. Leave the corpse rot here and pretend it doesn't exist when you patrol nearby. Or at least, pretend you see the body for the first time.

52. Learn to write.
While this may seem unneccessary in a job like guarding, it is in fact of the utmost import. While on duty, you are permitted only to clear your throat, spit, or complain about:
a) draughty corridors
b) the quality of the torches
c) the cook's skills
d) the noises the buildings and various critters make.
All else must be written down, including but not limited to:
a) your observations about how loose or tight security is
b) the whereabouts of your employer's most prized treasure and/or secret
c) various safety hazards, for instance traps and/or security devices
and so forth.
If you wish any of these, or any other of your observations, comments or criticisms to be known to your employer, either write it into your diary OR write a letter; leave these in a well-visible place to make sure it will be read.

53. Upon encountering a prone body, automatically assume the person is dead. No help or first aid is necessary.
54. An extreme sense of alertness to your surroundings is required when being knocked out or killed. If you happen to spot another prone body after you are incapacitated, be sure to announce such with your last breath. During training, you will be knocked out repeatedly in order to test your ability at this skill.
55. In all cases of finding a prone body, automatically assume it was the Thief Garrett who did them in regardless of any other prevailing circumstances (like a skirmish, or attack by undead).

56. If you're chasing that pesky Thief and he climbs through a window into a building, you're not allowed to use any kind of advanced physical skills to follow him (like climbing in said window). You must instead run around the whole building and come for the player through the front door.

57. If you chase a thief into a corner and he hides in an unreachable location, do not try to shout for help, but stand there alone until you're sure that the thief can't be hiding in that dead-end anymore. He must've gotten past you somehow, so start searching your immediate surroundings. If no thief is found, return to your duties.

58 - If you're patrolling in the street and you hear fighting, explosions, screams of pain, battlecries and other ruckus, it's nothing. In your line of work, you have to expect some noises...:p
(I was replaying Thief 3: near the end when you're going around placing all the artifacts, in Stonemarket there's nobles, pagan priestesses, Hammer priests, guards and Gammall all fighting in the street, there's bodies and blood everywhere, and just further down the street there was a guard patrolling, hears all the commotion, and goes "Place like this...you have to expect some noises.... "
