DarkLoader Version 4.3 (I think that's the actual version) crashes when I put "Patriot" in my T2 directory. Why this?

Stop using Darkloader, it's a very old mission loader and has not been supported for years and was made before the introduction of Newdark, which almost every mission nowadays is made with.
Use a modern loader such as (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149706) Angel Loader or (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146917) NewDarkloader (which has the same interface as Darkloader).
I believe your old saves will be compatible with of the above modern loaders but check their read me files for confirmation.
If the problem persists then post again.

The english version of "Patriot" is a bit over 2 GBytes in size as a zip archive. DarkLoader can't handle that size and crashes. The russian version is a tiny little bit smaller, just below the critical size, and can be used in DarkLoader. If anyone is a die-hard fan of ancient DarkLoader, he/she can unpack the english archive, get rid of some files (if it's known that these won't be needed) or compress some of the audio files, re-pack the zip, and suddenly it should work again. I even played the complete campaign with a version made smaller by compressing the audio files, and found no serious problems. Anyone's mileage may vary, though.
Nevertheless, DarkLoader has not been updated for more than ten years, and has some significant disadvantages when compared to modern loaders. The worst one of these is that under certain circumstances, DarkLoader may mess up the player's Thief directory/folder, and sometimes can't fix it anymore. Therefore, while I don't crucify anyone for wanting to use that ancient loader, I definitely don't recommend it any more. FMSel, NewDarkLoader or AngelLoader IMHO are preferrable.

I finished the campaign.
So much brilliance.
So many frustrations.
(The only mission I was able to complete without any help was the last one.)
As others have said, this campaign is truly epic in scale and execution. The creator must be given due praise for his conception. There is nothing else like this in the Thief fan universe.
Concepts and ideas daringly executed on a scale scarcely ever seen in Thief; a story compellingly sustained over a vast arc--amazing elements.
It is easy to have a love/hate relationship with this campaign. By turns surprising, astonishing, and infuriating, there is one thing which it never was: boring.
As many times as I cursed and screamed out of frustration, I also laughed in delight or gasped at unanticipated developments or misdirection.
In sum, like an exasperating friend who tries your patience at every turn by his actions, nevertheless you miss him when he's gone.
It's over, and I miss it.
Well done.
