While playing dx the other day, I noticed that there are tons of doors that don't acually open or go anywhere. So I was thinking maybe I otta do something about that, and edit the levels to allow you to explore those otherwise unexplorable areas. Maybe I could fix the elevator in the 'ton and put in that mysterious third floor. Or add all the other apartments in Hong Kong that are listed on the computer terminal.
Whaddya think?

shit, i'd do it....if i wasn't working on my thief level (which is, guys, about 76% complete. i've laid all the brushes and textures and npcs...i need to do ai encoding...which is gonna take a while, considering i have about 30-40 npcs to encode). why not try it? the only way i could see this happening is to edit the levels themselves. and, once you've done that, if you play your cards right, you could get eidos to release it as a stand alone patch or just add em in with the next patch coming out. i'd play it.

Project update:
I have now completed the Third floor hallway in the 'ton, and am proceeding to add a totally kickass nightclub, with a bouncer, some side-quests, some punks to threaten, and a rock band on stage(with music!)
If you are wondering about what in the world a nightclub is doing in the 'ton, I figure it this way: To make some extra credits, Gilbert Renton allowed the nightclub owners to convert over the hotel's old conference room. They run the club, and Gilbert gets rent from them.
I will be putting in all the rooms on the 3rd floor soon, and then will complete the phantom rooms on the second floor(the barred doorways). I am also thinking about making a few weapon mods that can be purchased from one of the tenants, as well as giving the player some good deals on weapons(better than Smuggler's, anyways).
Once this project is completed, I'm thinking about designing an alteration to the Battery Park ambush that would allow the player to bypass the showdown, yet still allow the player to go through the MJ12 labratories--through the front door. This would fix the small problem of the forced path, and give the player the opportunity to assault the base with all weapons and inventory intact.
My main concern with the alterations is that if I were to create side quests, I would need voice talent to fill in for the major characters to make the conversations and the datalink sound right.
[EDIT]Dumb spelling mistakes...[/EDIT]

this is fantastic that your actually doing it. your ideas so far sound really good. as for the voice acting...i could do some. not only am i quite the actor(or so i'm told), i can also do some pretty good impressions.
<IMG SRC="idea.gif" border="0"> this is gonna sound really far fetched...but...why not write some big formal letter to eidos and see if you can get them to help you with the voices. i'm sure they could either supply some unused sound files or even record some new ones with the actors who played the characters, like JC. i don't know if the world of modding works like that, but it's worth a try.

You can get behind that door in various ways... The most fun one is jumping from Ms. Chow's apartment to the balcony below. ;)

Further Updates:
I have been working on getting the mood of the modification right, with much exprimentation on lighting and ambient sound. I have also been trying to get some new props imported into the level, but Milk Shape is not being cooperative...the damn stupid crappy non-intuitive skin mapper is not working with the models I've made in TrueSpace.
I have also discovered that I'm no good at making convincing textures, and that has been slowing me up a bit(8 hours total to get a crappy little neon sign to look just right!). The fudging Unreal engine doesn't allow high-color images w/ alpha, just 8-bit with one transparent pallette entry.
I'm also researching the possibility of making some new accessory and weapon mods, but its dependent on my being able to fully understand the Deus Ex scripts(this my take awhile). One concept I had was to make an attack drone augmentation. It would operate similarly to the spy drone, but be able to use a projectile attack.
I'm going to try to get enough webspace to actually showcase the mod, but all the level, model, and texture data are pretty heavy on the MBs. Check here for updates.

If you want webspace, let us help you out here on (

We host The Cassandra Project right now, and we could definitely help you out in the same fashion and post whatever updates you want to post on the site.

Thanks, BDB. Just E-Mail me the particulars.
On another note:
*Microwave nervously observes his printer chew though a box of paper listing the DeusEx scripts.
Yeesh, it's like it goes on forever! Well, at least reading it on paper is less strain for the eyes...plus, it's easily portable.
