overrated == filthy dirty heathen casual gamer cancer
In other news, someone frowned in my general direction as I was walking along the street this morning, so I turned around and ripped his fucking head off.

Haha ... yeah, right ...

I'm not so sure if Zeno Clash is a great example. It doesn't (

The Zeno Clush devs seem to be betting on future profits, which might be ok for them, but I imagine it isn't a sign of a healthy market.
As far as I can remember, other examples like The Witcher had a reasonable presence in traditional retail stores, where they probably got a great deal of their sales.

It's good but not great. And most certainly way overrated.
Also: Companion Cube. I can understand the song being popular (and people are
still fucking singing it), it's cute and catchy, but the Companion Cube? What the fucking hell.
The companion cube is great because it's a blatant attempt to coerce the player and even though I was aware of it the whole time, the game kinda made me feel attached to it.
just like the portal protagonist

Yeah I had read that blog post and I was aware that the market is not yet big enough to support games like
Zeno Clash but it was more an example of the kinds of things that might be more prevalent as the market grows ie indie game that aren't just quirky 2D platformers/physics experiments.

We hope! The next five years should be an interesting time to be a gamer.

It was a crate. I pretty much thought "Oh lol, the game is making a joke that I should be friends with the crate. Lame." and then incinerated it.

So it's a blatant attempt to coerce the player and
you fell for it. Do you watch anime, by any chance?
@dethtoll: Very nice rant, even if sounding a bit hollow coming from a Valve fan.
