I fail to see how Guitar Hero and Halo 3 are somehow "casual".
Sure, they're more popular and mainstream, but how does that make them casual? Fucking beating Through the Flames and Fire on the highest difficulty is "hardcore" bordering on insane.
What's happening is that games are becoming less niche. There are still niche games, but they're just harder to come by. Instead, games are being streamlined more so that they contain both a CASUAL and a HARDCORE. And this is absolutely the right direction for gaming to be headed.
Halo 3 is an easy game to pickup. But I highly doubt that you could have that kind of mentality while actually being good at the game. You have to live and breath that game to become really good at it.

TTFaF destroys me even on Medium difficulty. I'm really not looking forward to encountering it again on higher levels. But at the same time it will be awesome when I do.
