Sounds like Forest of Despair.
OK. While in this cave, there's two things you'll need to do in order to complete the rest of this mission.
[SPOILER]1.)You'll want to goto the area with the poison water is at. There's an area that has lava surrounding some kind of bowl with fire in it. Read the plaque that's on it for the clue here (douse out the fire...).
2.)Now that you've done that, the rock wall by those ape beasts is open. Watch out for burricks and try to get the journal notes from the dead body with caution or you'll find out how that person died. Read the notes for the next clue (light the torch in that room with either a fire arrow or a flare...). The moment you solve the clue, run like the dickens to where you saw those ape beasts again. There should be another rock wall that's open. Hurry in there before it closes.[/SPOILER]
You'll know what you'll have to do after step 2. Hope this helps.:thumb:

Do this...
[SPOILER]After defeating Christine III, try to activate a button in one of the statues (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a110/xGORTx/dump005-2.jpg) (pic) and go back to the portal.
OK, the door on the right should now be open (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a110/xGORTx/dump007-1.jpg) (pic).Go in that doorway. This will lead you to the Christine III's sword (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a110/xGORTx/dump010.jpg) (pic). But watch out. There's a ghost guarding it. The best thing to do is to get the sword as fast as you can and use it on that ghost. Kill that ghost and you'll be able to get something that he'll drop.[/SPOILER]

How diabolical!
Is there any significance to the hole in the wall [SPOILER]in the room with the crayman and the pirate? There's an electrical fixture that's been torn off and replaced with a gas fixture. The hole left behind in the wall has wires hanging from it.[/SPOILER] It's just different from anything I've ever seen in Thief and usually that means it's of some importance.

This floor is still being fixed up. There should be a note that has the status of that floor by the elevator.

I've gone through the catacombs in Mystic Estate. I'm in an area with eight curtained dorways. [SPOILER]I went through each doorway more than once and so far only got a gold skull for my troubles. Of course I also transported to all the various rooms and reloaded if it resulted in a fatality. I have a feeling there should be more to this. Shouldn't I be finding Christine or something? If I hadn't read it in a spoiler, I wouldn't know I had to kill her. Is there someplace I haven't been that would have a readable explaining some of this because I also don't know how I'd have known of the entrance to the library needing a fire arrow if it weren't for this forum.[/SPOILER]

I also opened the door with the silver gear. [SPOILER]Nothing much in there that I can see.[/SPOILER] No clues about the catacombs.
