"Whoa" moments. - by JumpinBlackjackFlash

What moments in Thief have made you go "whoa"?
Just post whatever comes to mind under that statement. The moments posted can be silly, too. :cheeky:
For me? Well...
The Bonehoard (watched my friend play it at his house). Small buncha tombs at first, but then you get into the Bonehoard proper...The place is HUGE. It's like Moria from Lord of the Rings. And all the traps...It's desolate-feeling, but awe-inspiring at the same time.
The Shalebridge Cradle, from beginning to end. Amazing level.
Life of the Party. The size of the level is impressive on its own. So much to do and explore...
The docks/warehouse level (I forget the name, it's the second mission in The Metal Age). Same reason as above mission.
Constantine's mansion in Thief 1 and the Maw of Chaos. Escher's got nothin' on these. :thumb:
Prettymuch all of the Thief 2X missions. Call me a fanboy, but they're stunning when you consider they were all made just by fans. (That and why should I complain any when I got it for free?)
Your turn! :D

There's nothing like unbridled newbie enthusiasm! Enojy taffer. You can only play it first once.

For me, on Thief 1 it was the very first mission, Bafford mansion, where I discovered the pleasure it could give to enter someone's house unseen, hidding in shadow, etc... Discovering Thief gameplay in fact.
Then, it was with Assassin : to follow someone through the city, then rob a mansion, then go back to the streets again, that was amazing. Finally with Thief 1, it was to enter undercover into the hammerite monastery.
With Thief 2, it was Life of the party (you know why) and Kidnap (back to the Lost city modified by mechanists... groovy).
Thief 3, except with the graphics, it was the fact we could visit the city between each missions  and of course the cradle...
To finish, with fms I only had 3 REAL "whoa moments" (except T2X :) ): with Calendra's legacy, with CoSaS project, and recently with Ashen age (felt like a noob with this one, damn it).

I once thought the Bonehoard was the most 'whoa' moment in the Thief games for me.
Then came Deadly Shadows.
The Cradle made the Bonehoard look like a kiddie ride in an amusement park. Imho.

So true but the first time through was still amazing. RTC still haunts me, especially when you first enter the cathedral; it's just so immersive even if the graphics are dated now.
If you want a string of whoa moments try 'Deceptive Perceptions' and then go and complete 'The Inverted Manse'. Go on, I'll wait. ;)

thief gold:
the grafics (at that time), the 3d stealth experience!
-the training: it was my first time playing it and i was amazed by all the possible things that you can do in that game: rope climbing, stealthy manoevers
-'the jail mission': o noes zombies!
thief 2:
-the bank: o noes robots! :cheeky:
-lotp: doesn't require extra info
thief 3:
it's grafics, the first time i entered the city, the loading screens.. :nono:
and offcoure the cradle & the small part afterwards :thumb:
and offcourse fm's/series like 7th crystal, t2X, calendra's, a thief's holiday, kotp..

for me its probably that although the graphics engine is quite old (i make it 7 years), you still get awe inspiring views, such as the Darkthrone recently, and rocksbourg. the quality of the artwork put into this game series is amazing, especially by the fans.
But yes, the first time i was caught in the cradle in deadly shadows was a woah moment.
Similarly when you look up or down in the bonehoard and realise "i have to get up / down there?!?"
No other game is like thief. Let it carry on forever more.

When I realized that I can kill Gamall in such an entertaining way...:laff:

Since Thief the Dark Project, and Thief Gold were my first gaming experiences, those two games, had the *whoa* moments for me.
Everything after that just tickled.

The Bonehoard, Life of the Party. Those standard levels that surprise with their depth.
My newest "Whoa-Moment" however was when I discovered this community and how alive Thief 1 & 2 still are. Fan-Missions coming out almost every month even though Dark Engine definitely isn't the most up-to-date one out there. Simply amazing.
