There were two moments actually.
First was when I played Life of the Paty in T2 with huge Angelwatch castle, it was so vast:eek:
And the second one was when I first started playing Thief: DS, I've never seen such beautiful lighting and visuals. It was breath-taking.

Cragscleft. The mine felt like a mine. The prison felt like a prison. The temple felt like a temple. The environment was completely compelling, and the architecture convincing.

First level of T1. I ran straight into a guard, who then failed to notice me.
Obviously The Cradle needs no mention

I loved the new levels on Thief Gold, specially the Mage Tower, loved the architecture and the size of that map, it was amazing.
But my true woah moment was when I saw the Beta model of the Bugbeast.

Thief: Apart from the reveal cutscene, on the streets after escape. Felt like 'all hell has broken loose', literally. Gave me a real motivation to do something to stop the Trickster, which is something so hard to achieve in games (making the player give a damn about the plot).
Thief Gold: Songs of the Caverns. Maybe not a 'Whoa' moment, but just love this level and the 'in-game' tension music.
Thief2: Precious Cargo. When I found out there was more to the lighthouse than met the eye. Kinda felt like an Indiana Jones moment when the floor started to descend.
Thief2X: The train terminal building and following mission on the train itself. Thought that was great.
Thief3: When I first got "killed" and woke up in a prison!

I agree with most of the above mentioned missions and would like to add:
Thief Gold: "The Sword" Constantine's mansion made me freak out in a major way since I felt i had NO control with my surroundings and thus I said that nerdy word many times :joke: Also "Thieves Guild" and "Mages Tower" were great experiences. "Down in the Bonehoard" :wot:
Thief The Metal Age: I really really really REALLY love "Life of the party" also the bank mission made my heart almost explode from fear of those huge robots.
Thief Deadly Shadows: Which I have not yet completed (Lucky me:cheeky: ) I just can't bring myself to end the series:sweat: :nono: Anyway, the "Seaside Manor" mission has awesome atmosphere and music is amazing. The "Pagan Tunnels" mission also made me freak out. I would also like to mention that I think the graphics and lighting in this game is really beautiful.
FMs: Have not played many yet but "The Inverted Manse" !!!111 WOW that REALLY is an amazing piece of work and made me almost die from fear.
YES, the Thief games make me into a pure wuss since the suspense is second to none, always on my toes expecting everything to attack me:eww: I don't get that in other games.
I would also like to add that I love ALL the games missions and would not want to be without a single one of them but this I guess I need not point out :thumb:

The one that really comes to mind is the first time I played "The Sword". I was so freaked out by the architecture and design of that place. It was like nothing I'd seen in a videogame up to that point. Tottaly mesmerizing.

Yes, the Sword IS a pretty "Whoa" mission.
I think it goes through a few stages:
1. "Just a regular mansion, no problem."
2. "Okay, inside. Kind of freaky wall paint and carpets..."
3. "Nice garden... wonder why isn't it outside?"
4. "Okay, second floo-- dear God, was that architect DRUNK?"
5. "WHY DOES THIS DOOR IS IN THE FLOOR WHY!?"
6. "D:" (seeing the inverted rooms)
7. "D :" (navigating all the law defying corridors and feeling of being inside a mountain)
8. :D (finally getting outside)

Agreed, still surprises me after all these years.
I'm now stuck on the level after. :(
