The object of the game is to use a slingshot to shoot different types of birds at structures that are protecting pigs that have stolen eggs of the birds. You destroy the structures to destroy the pigs. The fewer number of birds you use the better your score.

Its a really really great game in my opinion. One article quoted a million plus downloads at verizon apps market over the first weekend of release. Another article i read mentioned EA recently bought out the rights or futures or something.
If you have a Droid/I phone comparable device I highly recommend checking it out.

Yes, a huge time-waster -- extremely addictive. It really suits touch screen devices.

I assume from the scare quotes in the thread title that this isn't "actually" a cell phone game.
From the trailer videos it just looks like a portable version of (

EDIT: Which apparently came out after Angry Birds. Which makes this very old news indeed. Oh well.

Where did you get that information? I'm quite sure I played Crush the Castle (the Flash version) well before Angry Birds was released for iDevices (which AFAIK is Angry Birds' original platform).
Personally I prefer Crush the Castle for two reasons. One, I like the possibility to choose your ammo instead of being forced to play specific types of ammo in a specific order.. Two, I find the CtC's one button approach more elegant and precise enough, while AB's drag and release controls are somewhat fidgety and not as precise as I'd expect from a more complex input mechanism.
But I do understand that the Angry Birds characters are more appealing than the near chess set pieces used in Crush the Castle.

This is quite interesting, because we've had lots of news coverage on these dudes, since they're Finnish. Becoming millionaires on one game released on Iphone/Ipod Touch. It's ported to android now as well.

Although I no longer use an iPhone as my main phone, I did happen to purchase Angry Birds back when I did.
It's very addictive, and rather charming. (Love the evil, gutteral cackle the pigs make along with a knowing smirk when you fail a level)

Seems that it's coming to consoles. Wish that I could find that clip of Jon Hamm describing the game, from some talk show.
