Yay I finally won a game, against Al_B. Was pretty even up to a point, but I played a lot more aggressively than I normally do, and had some kind of a plan, rather than just damage control which is how I usually go about chess. All the practice is really seeing an improvement in my game.

I'm currently in training. I lost 1-2 to Al in games, my work colleague who hasn't played for years is about to give me my third whooping, SubjEff, beat me three times (or was it four?) for my once and Dema and Nuth both beat me too. I'm winning less than a third of my games, so I need to slow down a bit and actually take in some strategy and tactics rather than just play by intuition which has been diluted since I learned.

I would play somewhere between 21:00 MET and 3:00 MET. (15:00 EST - 21:00 EST). If you are on the East Coast (EST), maybe we can meet. If you are on the West Coast (PST), then probably we are out of luck. If it happens, that's nice. If not, no sweat.
I'm in the U.S.'s Mountain time zone which is just an hour east of the Pacific zone, so the timing still isn't very good. There will be occasions when I can play in the afternoons here though, so we'll likely get to play blitz sometime. I'll look for you when the opportunities occur.
Feel free to challenge me to an Online game if you wish. I only have two of those going now, and one of those is going slowly.

If you challenge someone to a game with a 3 day time limit, it should be implicit that it'll be a slow game, so they have the option to reject.
I have a slow burner on the go with Yakoob at the moment which has lasted around a week so far.
Aye, tbh, I like to check it once or twice a day and have a nice slow game going, than compulsively every few hours. Playing in-place with physical, wooden keyboard is still preferable of course but hey you gotta make do ;)

Well SubjEff kicked my arse again (all while sending me song lyrics / book quotes in the chat window to taunt me - very sinister, would make good serial killer), but to salve my wounds, I am currently 2 moves away from mate with my colleague Harry (likethatisit) who has already beaten me 2 or 3 times. The chess lessons have actually proved extremely useful in this case.
SubJeff on 4/7/2013 at 17:30
Ha ha. I do that to everyone (send silly messages) but it's not taunting, it's messing about.
You guys need to cut it out on the castling so early though. You, Al and PigLick do it really early before you've developed the rest of the board. All it does, so early, is give your opponent a side to focus on. The 16 middle squares are the most important early on, usually, and you guys let me dominate the centre and then castle. Well at that point I'm already in control so I can swing my forces left or right and start trying to mess with your undeveloped defences on the castled side.
Another thing is all three of you are hesitant to exchange pieces. Out of all the games I've played against you 90% of the time I'm the first to do a swap. This allows me to choose the piece that is bugging me most (and in the early to mid game thats usually a knight) and swap it for one of my bishops, which are more useful later on.
So that's your template for beating me for starters - don't let me dominate the middle if you are going to castle early and don't hesitate to take one of my irritating knights that by now you must realise I like to get all up in your face.
:p

I'm really happy with the game I won against my colleague though. My best game so far. After a really shaky start, I actually managed to use some of the tactics I've been reading about: (

The discovered attack at 15. was probably where it turned around for me.
