You could have had me in check with your Queen in one move and my only way out of that would be to move to a square to threaten your knight. After that, you'd have moved the knight and blocked my king in completely with your queen still circling like a great white. I sorely needed a bigger boat.

Have another look. You're wrong. My queen couldn't put you in check without being taken by your rook. Your back row was strong and if you'd retreated your queen...

You also had an 8 point material lead and my rook was stuck to my bishop which itself was boxed in.
It would have taken a miracle for me to get out of that situation.
Also, I joined a tournament without realising for each group of 4 players, all had to play all of their games simultaneously, so suddenly I'm faced with 6 competition games as well as the horrid situation I was in with you.
I'll play you again properly once tournaments are out of the way. The day job gets in the way massively too. I picked a really odd time to decide to pick chess back up if I'm honest. Still, it's a nice break from work when I get the time.

The game between Mopgoblin and myself is in a critical phase now. 11 Moves done. And I feel the decision should come within the next 5 moves (10 maybe). Unless we both manage to balance over the narrow path of equality. In such a complex position, one of us is bound to trip sooner or later. Hopefully the next round of the tournament can start after the weekend.

It's always a bad time to play chess. No matter what. It will eat your time. It will eat your life. It will eat your soul.

Do you happen to be a ginger ?

Nope. But I do have a masochistic streak. :p
Paintball is best played hungover.
Your current game is very odd. I don't get some of the sacrifices you guys made.

Not having a soul would explain why you are immune to the devouring of chess.

Odd ? Well, I didn't understand why Mopgoblin didn't play c5xd4, as usually happens in the Sicilian opening. Now my center-pawns are marching on. Maybe even to the 8th row. And I didn't understand why he sacrificied a pawn with 6. ...,b7-b5. He didn't get much out of that, except that I misplaced my bishop on c4.
I don't think we should comment too much on a game that is in progress. But if you wish, I can explain my reasoning for some of my weird moves later. (I'm gonna analyze the game after it is finished anyway. It's the best way to improve, learn from your own mistakes).

Let's just say that some of the pawn moves have been.. interesting. Sacrifices, exchanges that don't get much benefit. I'll see how it all ends. Maybe I'm not seeing the bigger picture :p

Just a heads up. I'll be away from home til Saturday so for the next round of Clash I may be a bit flaky.
