I used to play chess a lot, and could beat my friends regularly. But then I stopped playing peole, and started playing against the computer. Now everyone beats me because I am constantly falling into a reactionary game.

ok now have 2 games going, henke and dema. Dema was a demon player from memory and henke is no pushover from the way he is playing. Yay for chess!

After reading through this thread I want to learn to play chess again, anyone could give me some interesting tutorials and strategies ?

If you register at Chess.com (its free), they have a whole lot of tips, what openings to use that kind of thing. Plus you can play against other people.

Well Dema beat me soundly by out-maneuvering me, I ended up playing reactively which is never gonna end well.

Cool game. Some intense moments! Moves 13-15 were especially intense for me, when we started going at it over the center. And of course having your Q & B camped in my turf was scary.
I got some notes that may as well be instructive for everyone.
The game lived up to the Sicilian Defense's reputation, which is that White (Pig) has an opportunity to jump in early to mangle things & Black (me) can't stop much, but if W doesn't mangle enough, as soon as the Sicilian is set up it's a pain to do anything around. Probably why it's the most popular defense for Black by far. If I could maneuver around pretty freely, it's because setting up the defense early on did most of the job for me for the rest of the game.
As for any advice, the first 5-10 moves shouldn't be improvised (much). People should follow a named opening down a track they want to play or is imposed on them. A million sites introduce the main lines of openings, so my advice is, once you see what opening you're doing (first 2-3 moves), do a quick read of it so you know what you should be trying to do, and be extra wary going down a line that isn't major.
The second thing is, IMO you should get most of your backrow pieces out (development, basically at least everyone but rooks) before starting any attack. Coming in with just 2 pieces is tough because they don't have friends to help out. But Q especially should stay well out until everyone else is developed.

Welp, that's Piggy DEALT WITH. :grr:
Seriously, very well played PigLick. Things looked quite bleak for me about halfway through. There were many times when I logged in and saw your latest move, and I was smacking my forehead and muttering "what the hell did I think was gonna happen".
Anyone else up for a game? I'm kinda hooked on this thing now. Have installed the chess apps on both my iPad and Samsung phone. I'M GOOD TO GO BABY WHOS NEXT

Yeh good game, epic time frame.
henke on 4/10/2015 at 16:23
Epic time frame? Isn't 1 or 2 moves per day the standard for chess.com games? I actually prefer playing this way to sitting down and wrapping a game up in an evening.
