I was looking through some of you guys' past games, and I noticed the name Quasimorphy cleaning up (before I looked back through this thread to know who it was) ... especially one where he decimated Piggeh in 7 crushing moves, and that alone was pretty sobering. Then when I looked back at this thread, I figured out it had to be Nuth (then I noticed the post where he gives the name, of course).
I played the computer to test my chops and realized I was falling into traps I knew about but forgot how to look out for, since it's been so long. I guess it's like piano, the skill goes away when you're not practicing, but at least re-starting isn't from scratch.

I'm enjoying the games. PigLick was unfortunate in that he lost his queen so early--difficult to recover from that. My game with faetal is still early, but it's starting to get interesting. The first game with SubEff was difficult. He plays in an unorthodox style that is hard to crack. He has skills. Looking forward to seeing how my current game with him goes.
It's clear you guys are still knocking the rust off, but thanks for the compliments.

Unorthodox? I thought I played it textbook! Ha ha.

Dema - get involved and don't be afraid to lose a few. I must have played around 30 games of chess in the last month or so, of which I have won fewer than 10.
I'm playing relatively safe with Nuth, but figure that he's probably about to pull the rug from under my feet.
SubJeff - I changed my profile pic to one of a robin with human arms smoking a cigarette - so yeah, that's me.

Well, first two games reminded me just how bad I am at this - but it's definitely enjoyable. I don't know if it's just my tablet but the Android app crashes quite often upon receiving a game notification. Not a huge issue but it's a bit of a pain when it happens.

Check out (

My opponent obviously isn't much good, else he wouldn't be losing to me, but I just took his queen after forking
FIVE of his pieces at once

'Atta boy! :D
He walked into it, but any move where you stomp a Queen for free is a good move & feels good man.
I want to play faetal & Piggeh next, then work up to SubjEff, then Nuth... Sort of like building up to a prize fight. Chess games are always kind of intense for me. You really feel it's war, disaster could be lurking around every corner, & it's charge or be charged.

You only get to play Nuth if you beat all of us?
Ha ha
You'll have to get past me first!
youll probably beat me easily on the first go
Yeah, the Android app flakes out a lot, on mobile and on tablet.

This is great fun! Though I find it hard to keep track of which game when there is 3 going on at a time. Changed my avatar as well, a pig of course.
Ok really have to step up, had a good game vs dema, pretty even until I foolishly sacrificed my queen for nix, then it went downhill rather quickly from there, great fork/mate move from dema near the end as well.
So just talking about general strategy is it, knights out first, then bishops, control centre of board if possible, castle early? Oh yeh and dont get yer queen out too early :(

That was intense for a while, the way the pieces got crunched up & neither of us knew how to break out really. At least you didn't lose the Q on an oversight; she just got tangled up in the mess without an escape hatch. I'll have to remember to watch for that myself too... Good game.
Edit: Knights are more powerful early game because they can jump over pieces in the way, bishops are more powerful late game because they can control longer stretches with a more cleared out board. But a single bishop without the other bishop is bad news (powerful pieces just stay off its color), so it's better to have two knights at the end than a knight & bishop. Uh, castling early gets you protected early, but if you open up either way, then castling later keeps the other guy off guard and wasting moves since he has to plan for you going to either side.
Control of center definitely; you put pieces in front of your center pawns early on so it made it harder for you to get center control. As for Queen out ... yeah watching how it played out, if you do put her out, you need to have an escape hatch to always get out because even if you have pieces around to "protect" her, even a tradeoff is still a loss.
