Fingers crossed! I'll send out the login details to the Mumble voice chat server via Steam. (bob, I've sent you a friend request on Steam.)
P.S.: My Xbox gamertag is ThirithCH. I take it that we'll be connecting via Microsoft's channels, so the gamertag may be necessary to find me. (I'm pretty much 100% new to online gaming along these channels.)

I actually had lots of fun playing minecraft again! Its also a nice change of pace to the usual arma fare, you get to chat a bit more.

Yeah, it was fun, even though it brought out moderately dickish behaviour in me. (Again, sorry, henke, for burying you alive. ;-) ) I'm not sure how much longevity the game would have for me, but it was a cool change of pace and a very enjoyable way of hanging out.

I think all of us have been that person at one time or another ;)

Hah, yeah it was fun.

It does feel like a game where you have to make your own fun, set your own goals and whatnot. I think the fun might be limited for me too, but it's nice to dip into now and then.

Sorry I missed out, but it was nice to hear what was going on at least lul.
I'll take this opportunity to express a little my Gen X disgruntledness at the current state of gaming versus how it used to be.
Just to walk through the whole thing:
- I bought Minecraft I think around 2010, and had the best experience on dethtoll's server.
- When it shifted to the new system, you had to link your new account with the old one.
- The catch was, they had different systems handling the purchases depending on when you bought it.
- For the window of time when I bought it, 2010ish, they couldn't recover the records of purchases from whichever system they were using then.
So you had to literally dig up the purchase order number. Interestingly I still even had the receipt email in my inbox, but that didn't have the order number. So I assume I was supposed to copy it from the website and save that for 8 years later or however long it was for me.
- Anyway, I didn't have the number, so the old account was unrecoverable no matter how many different ways I emailed asking them for any other way.
- So then fast forward to this year. I finally relented and bought it again. (Edit: And to add insult to injury, I couldn't register under my old name demagoggles because of course it was "taken", and I had to settle with just the one demagoggle =P.) I didn't really register that there's two versions now, Java & Win10, and only Win10 allows you to do multiplayer with people on other devices. But it wasn't really a debate because I sometimes dabble in modding, and because of (
https://www.pcgamesn.com/minecraft/minecraft-marketplace-windows-10-minecraft-pocket-edition) this (you have to pay for a more limited selection of less quality mods on the Win10 version you get for free in Java), I had to get the Java version.
- As it turns out though, if you bought the Java version before Oct 15ish 2018, you got the Win10 version for free. But if you bought the Java version after that date, you'd have to pay separately for the Win10 version. And I bought this around Jan 5th 2019 or so.
So, yeah, I'm a little miffed. I'm still glad I have the Java version because the mods & maps are essential for me. But it sucks I can't join you guys now because of it. (I only could with people playing it on PC, as I understand it). The only option, I think, is caving in and buying the Win10 version just for that. Maybe I will someday. If I did, it'd mean I'd have spent $90 to buy basically the same game 3 times though... Ugh, I feel like kids these days tolerate this kind of stuff because they've just grown up with it. Makes me feel old & cranky.

Oh man that sucks. :| I do remember it was a bit of a hassle to transfer my old account to the Win 10 one when I did it a year ago or something, but nothing like your ordeals with it.

I had similar problems trying to recover my old java version as well, in the end I just gave up and bought the Switch version, which doesnt have the extensive draw distance of the pc, but still runs really well, plus you can play up to 4 player local coop, which means me and my kids can play it together as well.

Regardless of the different, incompatible versions that need to be bought separately (and that's already annoying enough), I was surprised by how much of a hassle it was to get everyone onto the same server. I'm surprised that such a popular game, and one that's also popular with kids, puts up so many hurdles to people being able to play together.
Apart from that, it was also a hassle trying to get the VR version to work with Mumble, the result being that Minecraft VR wouldn't start any more even when I wasn't using Mumble. It was okay again after a restart, but the first 10-15 minutes of the Saturday session were a major pain in the backside. Which is a shame, because I really like how the game works in VR, but in the end I had to resort to playing the regular version.

yeh I could see VR Minecraft actually being really cool. Even though its just basically lego blocks, it has a really pleasing aesthetic, especially when you come across some nice scenery.
