A lot of the former LGS people worked on it, so yeah I think it would have been very similar story-wise - I'm not talking about the engine or game mechanics and things like that, just the story and the canon. If I'm not mistaken, LGS had planned out the full story arc of all three games before they folded and Ion Storm more or less stuck to that.

i find it hard to believe the ending of t3 is what looking glass would have planed,i wish there was a way to find out
unless thief was only meant to be three game in all?
and since thief looking glass is gone,ion storm don't have thief anymore and canada company pretty much killed it
why cant fan mission authors continue the story of garrett? not like they making money
i just want to know more of what happens after t3 and post t2
and yes i do know some of looking glass worked on t3 but i have no idea in what area of game

I do. The campaign I'm working at take place after original trilogy events. And it is as close to original storyline (say, 'canon') as possible.
It is just one version what could happen after.
Though, you have to wait for a while till I finish.

They can, but obviously they have other ideas. I do not know why, but cannot change that either (unless I would build missions myself, but I don't see that coming anywhere in the near future).

Since you won't accept Thief 3 as canon, why should anyone accept FMs as canon? And if FMs are not canon, then there's no one who can give you any more of the storyline of the Thief games and still ensure it's canon.
And back to the original idea of having the hag in any FM: I do not think that we do know exactly where the hag was before the events of Thief 3. This may also stop FM authors from creating FMs with the hag in it. Furthermore, if such missions would be set to a time before Thief 3, the storyline would have to explain why Garrett does not know who the hag is in Thief 3. If such FMs were located in time after the events of Thief 3, then what use would the hag have in there? She would only be an old, dying, and powerless woman, and Garrett as well as others couldn't care less about her.
It's far easier to, for example, create FM storylines with Hammerite high priests not known from the Thief games and let them do something good, bad or even evil. These would also not easily conflict with anything canon from the Thief games.

Yeah, Looking Glass and Ion Storm are gone. And FM authors are free to make missions about whatever they want. So I'm not sure what downwinder is really after here. He's acting like there's some sort of Master Thief Council that ultimately decides what happens to the franchise going forward.
It seems fairly obvious at the end of T3 that Garrett's story is done, so I'm not sure why there would be any real mystery or even interest in what happens afterwards. There really aren't any unresolved issues or cliffhangers.
And sad as it is, Thief 4 is canon too.

you say at the end of thief 3 the story is done then in the next line you say thief 4 is canon
my reply is there is no thief 4 ,its thief reboot,nothing canon about it ,and at the end of thief 3 garret its impossible for that little girl to become the girl in thief 2014 due to the fact garrett is still young i would have to say that girl would to have been 20+ years old making garrett old as hell which he wasent,jenivere became a bird? according to you since its canon there must have been a angry mage that did it? lol was it a water/fire/earth or air mage
i feel thief 2014 should never be spoken about as it is not thief we all know
one day there might be a thief 4 ,but until then the fan mission authors are more then able and proven to be able to keep the story alive weather pre thief/post thief or during missions that are true canon
if you want i can find countless videos where devs say openly thief 2014 is not a continuation but a re imaging of the franchise,i think you might be trying to troll me about that as i know you are way smarter then that
