you say at the end of thief 3 the story is done then in the next line you say thief 4 is canon
I said Garrett's story was done, meaning the Garrett that we know. As Squadarofl mentioned, Thief 4 takes place several hundred years later, with a new incarnation of Garrett. Erin is not the same girl from the end of Thief 3. As hated as the game is, it is considered canon because it's an official Thief project.
But in the end it doesn't matter, because everyone can believe in whatever they want.

Finally I know what it feels like talking to a wall.

if that is true what a load of junk from the thief 2014 team to even say something like that
and it just so happens he got a fence named basso and jenivear is a bird
i saw a video last night on youtube saying these writers still got jobs
i banish thief 2014 forever i could have made up a better story then they did, excluding spelling
but thank you i understand now,but i dont accept it,want to kill a game franchise send it to canada

and after thinking about it,now we know the keepers are no longer a faction nor the hammers/mech/pagan's so it would be cool to find out why post t3 so you fan mission authors got 400+ years of fan mission lore to fill :)
ty brethren for the info
i shall now go and make the key that appears on garretts hand at end of t3

Whoa mate Thief 2014 IS canon, like it or not; the devs openly said it's not a
direct continuation, understand by this it takes place at least 400y after TDS.
Your understanding is incorrect.
The timeline in the alternate NuThief Universe has confused some to think that it's just "the Thief Universe, 400 years in the future"...nothing could be further from the truth.
EM chose to make a re-imagined universe...one with a fundamentally different universe history and construction. For example, the Elemental Planes do not exist in the NuThief Universe; hence no elemental magic, elemental wards, elemental creatures, or elemental crystals...and according to NuThief Lore, NuGarrett is actually the one true Garrett, and that other guy from 400 years ago is called "Sneak Thief".
A re-imagined NuThief Universe design, history, and characters, alters the fundamental reality of that universe...making it invariably incompatible with the original classic Thief Universe.
It is clearly stated by the devs that this is a re-imagined universe, verified by the glaring objective inconsistencies that define these fundamental differences. This calamity has created a chasm right down the middle of the Thief Franchise...with the classic Thief Universe on one side, and the alternate NuThief Universe on the other.
Canon != Franchise
So you see, what we have is
dual canons (classic and alternate) co-existing within the container of the Thief franchise...all due to EM's misguided abandoning of the classic Thief Universe.

It seems fairly obvious at the end of T3 that Garrett's story is done
No doubt, but it is not the reason not to start another story, right?

And sad as it is, Thief 4 is canon too.
Seems I see the point. It's the canon, but
another. Doom 2016 is also the canon, but for doomers only. Thief2014 is canon for taffers2014.

Where does most of this info come from Vae? Is it in-game, or from the companion app? I knew there was more to the story, but I never cared enough about the game to investigate.
The only thing I would disagree with is your statement that "Canon != Franchise." If not that, how do you define canon?
Also, I don't see how Thief2014 can refer to "Sneak Thief" as being the original Garrett, when it's not taking place in the same universe. And what about all that stuff about finding Garrett's eye in Moira's asylum?
