Are there any complete beginner tutorials around that cover manipulating and converting textures to use with Thief? In short, I want to grab textures from sites like cgtextures.com and put them in the game, but I don't understand much about properly converting them to the power of two, or what is the best size/resolution to use, or palettes, or any of that stuff. I need a novice guide for all this that assumes I know basically nothing.
Anything like that available?
Edit: If nothing exists, I'd like to make one in this thread if anyone's up for it.

(
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136864) I've got my old Photoshop tutorials here (as shown in Tannar's link above. It'll walk you through everything from tiling, to power of two textures, to making one from scratch.
It's very, very PS specific though. Some of the stuff I cover will work with GIMP, but for that, it only introduces the concept, it doesn't tell you how to use them there. Really, if anyone's even remotely interested in texturing, I suggest ponying up $10 a month, and subscribe to the Creative Cloud Photography pack.
...yeah, I know. Subscription software is the devil. Blah blah blah. Comeon. It's two powerful program that used to cost upwards of $600 together that you can now get for less than the price of a medium pizza a month. It's worth it.
As for Newdark materials, I was working on a tutorial at one point. I got about 14 pages into it, then got side tracked and never returned to it. Maybe it's time I pick it up again, since the materials are by and far one of the biggest things that came along with Newdark.

I've been following this tutorial very closely, but for some reason, I cannot make my texture to work properly. First of all, my texture isn't seamless like in the tutorial, and I followed the instructions step by step. Second, the mtl file doesn't work for me at all. Anyone got any ideas/suggestions?
I'm really starting to get pissed with these custom textures. I have spent 3 days already trying to get this 1 measly texture to work, but to no avail.

Creating a seamless texture is a process and an art. Tools can help, but you have to have an artistic sense and the patience to put in the work to get it right. If you don't, then make do with the OM textures and other publicly released fan made textures.

Oh, I had no idea about that. Thanks for enlightening me. I think I'll just dig up something from another FM that resembles the one I want.
