Is there any other single player first person sneaker with shadows and a light gem? NO.
If atmosphere is what you want, you can find hauntingly similar environments and concepts spread throughout the Ultima and Might and Magic series. Also, Wizardry VIII has an atmosphere that captures that neat feeling of Thief. Unfortunately, I am only including Thief I in this...
If you want something similar to Thief II or Deadly, don't know what to tell ya. I never know exactly what people mean anymore when they refer to "Thief". To me, Thief is The Dark Project.

This may sound weird, but I enjoyed Deus Ex in a very similar way that I loved Thief (I first played Deus Ex only a couple years ago), and it has similar aged-but-still-cool graphics, very good controls and player movement, etc.
But since it's a very different setting, it may not be anything like what you want.

Oh yes, Deus EX might be a very good choice! Even though the plot is somehow silly and the whole scenario is totally different.. it involves a lot of sneaking around.
I think you might also enjoy (

The emphasis may be on combat rather than theft, but Dark Messiah has all those aspects if you play as the assassin. It's the closest you'll get to Thief without actually playing it.
Heck, it even has rope arrows. :D

Yeah, I watched my younger brother playing it for a while. I (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110884) commented about it way back when it first came out... The results tended to vary as I recall, but yeah. In fact, I think you posted in my thread driver. :cheeky:

sort of a weird suggestion but i offer two games, the only two games that ever even came semi, semi close to making me feel like I did with thief.
1. project eden, futuristic and single player team based game. stealth play is weak but because most of the missions take place in abandoned parts of the city you get to see old hospitals and broken down temenemts and factorys and stuff.
2. Fable, stealth aspect semi-medicore but the locations, sound effects, ambience, atmosphere and musical score make it my third favorite game. Indeed I am tempted to say it was tied for third place with thief 3, maybe even better.

Dark Messiah is quite close to Thief in terms of camera, equipment and rope arrows (since we all know Thief's gameplay is based on rope arrows) and all this 1st person stuff. But the atmosphere is usually different and the story... well, did it have a story? Dark Messiah is fun, messing around with all the physics effects and so forth, but if Thief is about immersion, DM doesn't compare at all.
Vampire Bloodlines has (a lot of bugs if you don't use the official and fan-made patches but still) a pretty dark, dirty and (one more word with "d") ...dangerous City setting, although modern, but somehow immersive. It's a RPG though and features quite a bit of nudity; don't know where in Pakistan you live...

As strange as it may sound, try Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay for its stealth and atmosphere..
