I had a folder with Thief 2 from a couple of years ago where I had already installed T2Fix, NewDarkloader and possible other fixes/goodies like T2skies, T2water, CarryBody, etc. Now on a new PC I've extracted this Thief 2 folder and NewDark works but it seems the game's main menu is stuck under the FM Rose Cottage. So there seems to be no way to revert or "uninstall" it back to default Thief 2. This is one thing I always hated about Darkloader and Newdark. If you forget to uninstall an FM and then move your Thief2 folder at some point, you're going to be stuck that way and can't uninstall FMs back to defaults on a new PC.
Is there a way to manually put Thief 2 back to default settings? Is it just CFGs or a few small files which need editing or overwriting with default ones? I'd love some help with this if anyone is expert enough on the subject. Right now it loads Rose Cottage as default "Thief 2" for it's menu. And on top of that, the menu texts are misaligned. So yeah, it would be great if there was some small zip file which could be provided, with the default Thief 2 menus set, that can be extracted into my Thief 2 folder to fix this. Surely this can't be the first time this has happened to people?
I really would hope to not have to reinstall Thief 2 all over again, doing T2Fix, applying the various Mods to the game as well. Installing Newdark again too. All just to revert my Thief 2 to a default launch/look. I hope there's a better way to solve it by some smart person here.

Try the "Clean up of files" section in the (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48202) FAQ. If that does not work, then there is no easy way, and you should reinstall Thief 2, T2Fix etc.. After that, it would be a good idea to zip up and safekeep the contents of the game folder (including sub-folders), for if anything like this happens again, it is far easier to just unpack the correct contents of the folders and have an older, but functional setup, than having to sort the trash from the needed files instead.
And seriously consider moving away from DarkLoader. This old loader is a major reason for such accidents to happen. It was the only way to play Thief missions up to about a decade ago, but that time has passed. FMSel, AngelLoader, and even the somewhat retired
NewDarkLoader don't have this kind of problem.

Thanks. I will give it a try. And yes I am definitely making a backup zip of my Thief2 folder if or once I get it back to default Thief 2 state. So this will not happen again to me. Ugh! I will give AngelLoader a try as well going forward.

FYI it did work. In the FAQ section there it mentioned "install your Thief 2 missions", I don't know how/what it meant by that so that part I skipped and hoped for the best (there was no option under NewDark to reinstall the original files or missions).
Then I proceeded to delete the folders mentioned in the FAQ, and lo and behold I had a default Thief 2 menu after. Also I checked level one and the health bars and everything seemed back to normal as well. Thanks for the help baeuchlein. I made a backup ZIP of my Thief 2 folder now for any future issues.

The section in the FAQ told the reader that he/she should "install the original missions". This is almost certainly derived from DarkLoader's menus. To un-install a FM you played with DarkLoader, you have to select "Install original missions" or something like that, which is the same as "de-install any FM you're currently playing". This is needed because otherwise, the game will use installed parts of the FM you did not uninstall, and you would be in a similar mess like the one you already have.
This step is usually not needed on modern FM loaders as well, for they separate FM contents and content from the original game in a reliable way. It is purely a DarkLoader problem.

Ah ok. So that's why I didn't need to do that step. But in any case, it may help someone else in the future. I now have my game set back to defaults and backed up in that state. And new FMs I'm playing are working correctly (for example, Nosferatu). All is well and this thread ended in a happy ending. The best kind lol.
