Having finally reacquired a high resolution CRT (2048x1536x75hz Sony) for the sole purpose of ultra quality Dark Engine goodness, I decided to go back and game Thiefy stuff in high res. I KNOW it works in higher res modes, but all the sudden I can't seem to get it to work! I even have some screenshots from Thief 2 at 2048x1536 laying around somewhere, though it was on a different computer at the time - it was originally by setting the cam.cfg accordingly, but now it doesnt seem to want to work - i'm limited to 1600. I get "screen mode cannot be set".
In Thief 1 inbetween resses is easy, you manually set resses like 1280 or 1600 in the cam.cfg file and don't touch the Video settings in game, and it will work fine. I'm pretty sure I used to game at 2048 in that too for awhile.
Does anyone else game at higher than 16x12, or did you try gaming like that for awhile? Does anyone know or remember whether any other settings might be necessary to get it working at those resses?
I've heard people report 1024 and 1600 working but 1280 working in other cases too - i'm wondering whether it might be a video card specific thing. (if so, perhaps it would be worthy to add to the FAQ?) Is there anything in windows that might rule out certain modes for certain cards like an available modes list?
For that matter has anyone ever gotten a widescreen mode working? (this I guess is less likely)

I've never heard of resolutions higher than the highest option without stretching and distorting with a zoom command, or cropping the top and bottom to fit the image to the screen.
Currently, the possibility of widescreen for Thief: Deadly Shadows is being looked into here:

There have been more people who had problems losing the games' higher resolution options and had to troubleshoot to get those options back.
